Mosaic with cupids gathering roses, early 3rd century | Gallery 214

Instead of engaging w/ the new, bigoted dross published by a certain “public classics” journal, I am reading an article on the cultivation of roses 🌹 in antiquity. Am I “doing classics” enough? Wouldn’t want to reflect critically on my field and its inequities, would I? www.mdpi.com/2311-7524/12...

Ha ha. Yes, that is the student-designed mascot abandoned by the University. Known as Scrotie. My daughter’s high school announced mascots for the schools seniors would attend - they thought she must have been making it up.

Pink bicycle sock with old RISD graphic in black with white stitching at bad, heel, and toe. The old mascot Scrotie on the side of the foot in white thread.
My favorite off-brand University wear. I might have to stop wearing them to preserve for the archives.

Adding here the AI summary for course modules in Brightspace. Like, summaries of dates, tasks, bullet points, citations, descriptions. Luckily can be turned off by instructor. If noticed. Have no idea when it appeared, but noticed it this week.

Treason in the Futures Markets
People close to Trump are trading based on national secrets
“One question that may be harder to resolve is the extent to which the possibility of insider trading may actually have influenced policy. Are decisions about war and peace in part serving the cause of market manipulation rather than the national interest?”

Not equating this to the Himalayas, but when my husband and I were first together we took a hike in New Hampshire and a golden retriever named Alabama was just hanging around the store at the trailhead to follow people up the mountain. Apparently did that all day long.

Night time, with bird feeder hanging in tree with divided trunk. Snow on the ground and a little eye lit by the flash and a flying squirrel mid-glide between the trunks. Big eye caught in the flash.
Closing out the weekend in the woods with the flying squirrel caught on the wildlife camera at the bird feeder. Well, mostly squirrel feeder with 4000 pictures in one month of grey squirrels, flying squirrels, raccoons, fox or two, deer, fisher, and a coyote. Yeah, we need to fix the date lol

My husband was once proud to have fed the dog and cats while I was away. But every water bowl and toilet was dry in the house. Love your “fed AND watered.” That’s what we say now.

Cluster of tall hemlock trees with leafless trees around them. One trunk marked by many large holes made by wood peckers.
Beech tree surrounded by fallen leaves in the woods with one prominent long woodpecker hole and shavings on the ground below it
Many shavings on the ground that is covered by leaves in the woods. They have sprayed out below the tree from a higher woodpecker hole.
A day in the woods. The woodpeckers are busy.

Mosaic flower with blue center, orange petals, green leaves and some shiny blue decoration to fill a pothole in the sidewalk. Words in tiles around the flower read “Buffalo Pothole Bandit.”
A little something for you from my afternoon walk.
