completely agree, there are so many filters used in it that are completely dissonant with the (often amazing) pixel art. Bloom is one, the aggressive depth of field, the flat lighting effects on sprites make everything look like pieces of paper in a cardboard diorama. FFT and Disgaea looked great

sometimes we can make our own "promise" too. I remember playing one game to the end thinking it has to get better, there are enough small enjoyable parts, but overall it wasn't very good. (and definitely unsatisfying)

dang i remember when they first came into the scene and being really impressed

one thing that I cant really put into words well that I feel ties into this is 13 didnt treat its world as another character. 10 places so much reverence for every place you go, which makes them feel like a larger world beyond the bounds, and care about what happens to them.
