Commercial Art : New Series No. 2 : June 1924 : British Empire Exhibition Number : cover by Austin Cooper : in red and black, a helmeted female head looking down, printed on white card. The titling is hand lettered by Cooper.

The British magazine dealing with poster and commercial art, Commercial Art, had a rocky start when it was first published in the early 1920s and before it settled down, under the ownership of The Studio, in later years. The magazine, in some respects, mirrors continental publications such as the German Gebrauchsgraphik periodical. The early issues of Commercial Art usually had a commissioned cover from one of the period's acknowledged or up-and-coming artists or designers. This for the June 1924 magazine, a special issue looking at the 1924 Empire Exhibition held at Wembley in north London, is by Austin Cooper.

Cooper (1890 - 1964) was a Canadian-British artist and designer who after training in the UK returned to Canada before military service in WW1. He began work in London in 1922 and developed a recognisable style of poster art and was commissioned by many important clients including the London & North Eastern Railway and London Transport.
