I was recently interviewed on the Detours podcast about how Roll Models came to be, and about my own upcoming cycling adventures... Give it a listen here if you're interested open.spotify.com/episode/2dCQ...
We launched Roll Models in January and received 70+ applications for our pilot programme. Since then, our brilliant cohort of 38 people have been getting out for rides and mid-week microadventures, swapping tips for trailside repairs & lightweight camp meals, and generally learning from one another
Having experienced the value of reciprocal mentorship myself through the Mountain Mentors programme in Canada and knowing how many barriers there can be to getting into adventuring by bike (something that gives me SO MUCH joy 🌟), I recognised the need for something similar here in Bristol.
A little side project I've been working on... @roll-models.bsky.social – a mentorship community with a vision to empower women and other marginalised genders to explore by bike – independently, adventurously, and on their own terms. open.spotify.com/episode/2dCQ...

How did I miss this study when it came out a few months ago? Google Scholar normally emails me about anything that even mentioned cycling. Anyway - WOW, look at the effect sizes for the benefits of active travel
Lovely, thanks so much for sharing! Put together beautifully (as always), and echoes some of the things we do too. Hope you're able to find the space to revisit again this year.
How do you like to reflect on the last year + plan the next one as a team?
We've played around with Year Compass and a few other journaling methods at @wecanmake.bsky.social + would love to know what other tools are out there that we can use to look back + set intentions for 2025.. Any suggestions?

I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the rhetoric of developers. But it's disgusting that these facts – which could similarly be used in an article highlighting the inequality of housing in Bristol – are being used to attract investors...
This is the list of reasons to invest in the Chocolate Factory development at the end of my road in Bristol, where the new flats are being wholly marketed as buy to rent. This isn't how it was originally marketed, and very different from how the dev was presented to local residents prior to building
Line graph showing proportion of low-income households going without essentials by ethnicity from May 2022 to October 2024. Black, Asian and Mixed ethnic groups are consistently at higher risk than white groups.
@jrf-uk.bsky.social's latest Cost of Living Tracker makes for grim reading, particularly for low-income ethnic minority households who all face an elevated risk of hardship.
Around 8 in 10 households with a Black respondent are at very high risk of going with essentials such as food and heating.🧵1/
🚴 Two months after riding the Tour de Farce, I finally sat down to write up my journey, which (for better or for worse) has resulted in me making the bonkers decision to sign up to ride the Highland Trail 550 next May. Wish me luck!

Until this moment, I casually tossed around the phrase “hike-a-bike” when describing pushing my bike uphill for a few meters or so when I’d spin out on rocky roads, or when my GPS navigation would take me down a muddy or overgrown unrideable section of bridlepath…
Picture this: I’m in one of the most remote parts of the UK with my fully-laden gravel bike on my shoulders, and I’m climbing up a switchback trail so steep that I’d probably be enlisting the use of my hands if I’d had the capacity to do so.

Erm, why have we not heard these stories?!
Erm, how would I go about reporting A CAR driving along the Bristol-Bath cycle path this evening? @sustrans.bsky.social
Nice demonstration of the importance of accessibility as a characteristic of infrastructure.
There might be a lot of green space in the east of England, but it's of not much use if you can't access it.
