I sure hope it doesn't parrot old software forever, but the kind of AI we have today doesn't seem capable of generating fundamentally original ideas. It can remix multiple things it's been trained on, which is extremely useful, but not quite paradigm shifting.

Why would you say we don't know how to build software? And if we don't know, then how well does that bode for the AI trained on our written knowledge of software engineering?
