Palantir touts its human rights policy. But its tools help ICE run dragnet raids, detain people with no criminal record, and retaliate against protesters. Legal boilerplate is not human rights due diligence. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...

A grey blue washed image of a bearded young ish white guy looking into the mirror all serious with his palm pressed against it. A serif font title reads: DID I JUST ARGUE WITH A JOKE? A semi opaque navy snoot near the bottom bears the bluesky logo and the text PART OF A BLUESKY EDUCATIONAL SERIES
oooh that’s good.
Tears of joy. One of the owlets made it - shout out to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Austin Wildlife Rescue, and Cornell Ornithology. What a roller coaster.
A picture of a 6" painted live edge wood round- the painting is of a side profile of a formline sunbittern, with its wing stretched in flight.

There was a time when short form social media (at the time, Twitter) was a productive place to think out loud and in conversation with people and for the last year I have held out hope that it cools continue being that but to be honest, I do not think this site (or Threads!) serves me in that way
Decided to order several different books from my local bookstore out here instead. I know most of the books I read or want aren't usually even on their radar, but I also want them to continue to exist.
Sometimes just being there is enough.
I left facebook five-six years ago, deleted my account, and then had to reconnect to find community during the start of the pandemic because it was where people were. Deleting twitter wasn't a complicated decision, but man I still miss some of the people.
I read Cory Doctorow's Enshittification recently & it's so relatable. If threads/instagram hadn't kicked me off the platform for a relatively mild meme post, I'd probably still be there.
I still find myself missing the community I had there, that is still there, while I am here. It's hard to leave.
Excited that EatWithAfia's #vegan Ghanaian cookbook will be released later this year. Published via @penguinrandomhouse.bsky.social it's available for pre-order now.
I'm going order a copy from Another Story in Toronto, but there are lots of options.

"Pancreatic cancer mRNA vaccine shows lasting results in an early trial: Scientists caution that more research is needed, but nearly all of the patients who responded to the personalized vaccine are still alive six years later."
great article "Programming has a sexism problem. There is a history of women being not only the first programmers and the first computers, but also of them being actively pushed out and expunged from the historical record..."
I’m really proud of all of you.
a two panel meme panel 1 - geordi signalling 'no' with the text data centres and images of data centres Panel 2 - geordi signalling 'yes' with the text "data centaurs" and a crudely edited image of the character data from star trek pasted on top of a centaur
do you ever wake up at 3am and think "shit that's a good idea, I better write that down so I can share it later on"
A bit closer to having rural fiber - hurrah for options beyond satellite!
Can’t do anything, the kitten is climbing me like a tree. It’s out of my hands.
I used to think that solar "just" threatened the political power and profits of power companies and their fossil fuel suppliers (including the fact that they use your electricity $ for climate disinformation) but it's actually even more radical than that...

Sorry, I couldn’t do anything today, there is a kitten sleeping on my chest.
The gravy train continues
This is so messed up, I’m sorry. They’re so shitty.
Ohhhhhh ive been doing it all wrong this whole time. To become obscenely wealthy you just have to keep moving the money around
I could make SO many jokes about this and only half of them are about Larry Summers
@charliejane.bsky.social Hello! I was on your website today, and noticed it still linked to Twitter. Someone has taken your old username, so the link goes to them.
Cancel Reply Forbidden Jay Bluesky is made with Al, the engineers and even some non-engineers use Claude code Can you ask them to stop?

I finished it this morning and holy shit what a book. This years locus mag award list is SO full of incredible reads.
I've read nearly all (but two) of the fantasy list and they're all books that have stuck with me ever since.
Absolute banger of a list, you should read them all.
How exciting.
Once the 2026 @locusmag.bsky.social awards list came out, I looked for books I hadn't yet read.
The perfect purple cover of The Raven Scholar by Antonina Hodgson called to me. I put it on hold, & as I did I made an offering to the Skip the Line gods and was rewarded with an abundant boon. #booksky
