Can Victory Gardens Bloom Again? Edward Torres and Archana Vaidya take over as interim leaders of the embattled company as it seeks to reestablish itself in Chicago’s theatre scene.

When Victory Gardens Theater re-emerged with a new mission—“New work. Boldly.”—we at American Theatre had a lot of questions. Emily McClanathan sat down with new leadership to find out where the company is headed since its implosion.

I learned so much from Unsettling Territory! If you enjoy reading about Indigenous history and Midwestern history, especially through a lens of family stories, definitely pick this one up.

As someone who lives in this district, I was disappointed that her campaign took so much attention away from Mike Simmons and Bushra Amiwala, two young progressives who grew up here and have been doing great work as elected officials already. But I agree that Kat ran an impressive campaign!

A cheese factory in southwest Wisconsin. The John Deere historical site and Ronald Reagan's childhood home in Dixon, IL. Ulysses S. Grant's home in Galena, IL. And multiple apple orchards, of course!

Brad Onishi's public scholarship on Christian nationalism has been invaluable to my understanding of current events since I started listening to and reading his work five years ago. Really looking forward to his next book!

Review: ‘Elf’ at the Auditorium Theatre has a fine Buddy in a middling musical With music by Matthew Sklar and lyrics by Chad Beguelin, the Christmas cheer is dialed up to 11 in the familiar story of a human raised in the North Pole who travels to New York.

“Elf the Musical” is the theatrical equivalent of pouring maple syrup on spaghetti; kids may love it, but nostalgia aside, it’s too sickly sweet to have broad appeal for adults.

Look, "Amadeus" at @steppenwolfthtr.bsky.social is very good, but Mozart being a freelancer who gets driven mad by lack of gigs is probably gonna haunt my dreams tonight.

I've been thinking the same. Restaurants are closing or doing takeout only, parents are keeping their kids home from school, there's a general sense of unease but also encouraging displays of solidarity.

I went to No Kings back in my small, rural Midwestern hometown and cried when I saw 500+ people there and nearly constant honking from passing cars.

I like dogs, but this is a terrible idea. It's exclusionary to people with allergies or phobias, plus those who just don't want to share their dining spaces with strangers' animals. Just called my alderwoman to ask her to vote "no."

Just saw a kid reading a Cinderella picture book while her mom pushed her in one of those running strollers. That's the kind of running I aspire to (the kid, not the mom).
