On 17 August 1982 John Rentoul and I published a detailed report in the New Statesman reporting that Margaret Thatcher’s Falkland’s War Cabinet had “contemplated using Polaris nuclear missiles against Argentina. A Polaris submarine was sent to the South Atlantic to be ready for action 'if need be'.

Both E.coli MRE162 and Bacillus globigii are now known to be capable of causing adverse health effects in vulnerable people.

According to the UK Ministry of Defence, the Lyme Bay Trials were conducted to investigate the feasibility of large-scale Biological Warfare & investigate BW detection.

The Lyme Bay Trials 1966 YouTube video by experimentsrus

MRE Porton Down disseminated massive amounts of live bacteria across populated areas of the UK between 1963-1975.

The Lyme Bay Trials consisted of massive crosswind line releases from a ship of two types of live bacteria - E.coli MRE162 and Bacillus globigii.

Worth a watch:

Head of Signal, Meredith Whittaker, on so-called "agentic AI" and the difference between how it's described in the marketing and what access and control it would actually require to work as advertised.

'We know the Americans would keep faith with us...'

Came across this British official documentary from 1982, about Britain's nuclear deterrent, while looking for something else, and this line rather jumped out at me. #IWMcollections

#ColdWar #PortonDown Both types of bacteria sprayed during this experiment (referred to by Porton Scientists as a field trial) are capable of causing disease in humans.

The types were:

E.coli MRE162 (isolated in 1948 from a Porton lavatory)
Bacillus globigii (aka Bacillus subtilis var niger or BG)

#ColdWar #PortonDown All residents exposed to the aerosol cloud would have inhaled/digested very large quantities of live bacteria, as the bacteria size was selected to penetrate the deepest part of the lungs - the alveoli.

This size mimicked the properties of a real Biological Warfare agent.

#ColdWar #PortonDown When the massive bacterial cloud reached land, the wind strength decreased and almost vanished.

The bacterial cloud remained over the sampling areas for many hours.

This led to the target area and its inhabitants being contaminated for a longer time than expected.

#ColdWar #PortonDown The resulting massive bacterial aerosol cloud was carried onshore by the prevailing wind and sampled in the target area by mobile teams of Porton scientists.

On this occasion, the target area was the Isle of Portland.

#ColdWar #PortonDown OTD 1964, the Admiralty ship ETV ICEWHALE slipped from Portland Naval Base and sailed to nearby Weymouth Bay.

At 22:11 ICEWHALE sailed a 4.6 mile straight-line track across Weymouth Bay, spraying massive amounts of live bacteria from spray apparatus mounted on its stern.

We became a convenient scapegoat and a target for racial hate. While U.S. forces went off to fight fascism, we became the victims of a fascist program right here at home. They built barbed wire, militarized camps to hold over 120,000 of us for the duration of the war. /2
