It's National Library Week and Right to Read Day! I am proud to be a librarian protecting your right to information and to read every day.

Why is anyone still listening to this guy? Sal Khan, that is, not @biblioracle.bsky.social. If you aren't reading and listening to John Warner, YOU SHOULD BE!
This is Keene NH where I live. NH is FUBAR in many, many ways, but we got this one right (and SO many people still don't know how to navigate them).
NYT headline: "Texas Considers Required Reading List for School That Includes the Bible"
Me: You need to start being more specific. Protestant, Catholic, Hebrew? RSV? King James? JPS?
"Reading is allowing oneself to be persistently confused by something you don’t understand rather than asking Claude to explain it to you & then accepting that"
Reading @biblioracle.bsky.social is what has led me to think & to other authors whose writing has changed me.
Thank you, @michaelianblack.bsky.social for writing what I am feeling and helping me not feel so alone.
I hope Quincy is feeling better!
The people who are at the helm of developing & deploying this technology want to destroy humanity. Or at the very least they aim to alter humanity and society in such a way that makes humans subservient to not just the technology, but the people who control it

Spoiler alert @danielkraus.com . . . we liked it!
Just in time for your weekend, a new Keene of Books podcast. Molly, Chris, & I talk about "Angel Down," an unusal book with an odd cast of characters that includes and angel, and a narrative that is one long sentence.
Just heard a college provost (not mine) describe "machine to person" learning as "two-way," and asynchronous online learning as "one-way." Does this seem problematic or is there something wrong with me? @biblioracle.bsky.social @tressiemcphd.bsky.social @kevinmkruse.bsky.social
When in doubt, ask students.
AI, when applied to the classroom, undermines the mission of a liberal arts education—a mission to facilitate “robust and respectful conversation, critical inquiry and unprejudiced examination of the world”
Who invented ski mountaineering and what were they on when they did?
I watched "The Librarians" on Independent Lens. It was painful & agonizing. I'm an academic librarian. School and public librarians are heroes. They are accused repeatedly of being pedophiles. How many religious pastors and politicians have been arrested for child sexual abuse? And librarians?
They were from Sátoraljaújhely itself. My grandparents and my grandmother's siblings got out in 1929 (turned away from the US, but the ship they were on docked in Canada). But most of their families stayed behind and almost no one survived. I have their original marriage certificate.
Your aunt was in the getto in Sátoraljaújhely, Hungary. That is the town where my maternal grandparents were from. Your aunt has given the world a gift many times over. May she continue to have good health.
"The Northern Lights should be visible in most of New England tonight if the skies clear. The Justice Department says it's investigating."
"The Justice Department says it's investigating" seems like the tag line at the end of every news story.
Luckily my gifts to MaxFun go through the ether and get there faster. Enjoy your new digs!
OMG, @dannybaruela.bsky.social. It's like you're in my office looking over my shoulder while I put stamps on envelopes!
The current president AND morality is a Venn diagram where the circles do not overlap.
"Where is the slack to stumble, rise and reorient?"
This is the take-away. That's what we can do - participate and join in on the exhilarating road with all of its bumps by providing support and encouragement to keep them on the path they choose.
Librarian here - I am all in for the library resources, but also remind students that they won't have access to most of them once they graduate. Navigating the garbage that most search engines serve up is an important skill, too. And including a good list of excellent open access tools.
On behalf of this NH voter (and many, many others), thank you!
I grew up with a copy of the People's Song Book on our piano. My mother told me the story of going to the Socialist Party Headquarters in Indianapolis to get it one summer when she was home from college. Parents took me to anti-war protests and to walk a picket line in the 60s, so yes. It tracks.

NYT: Trump Says U.S. Is ‘Locked and Loaded’ if Iran Kills Protesters
WaPo: Trump and senior administration officials repeatedly threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act to addresses large protests.
"Holdings from the library at the Goddard Space Flight Center, which includes unique documents from the early 20th century to the Soviet space race, will be warehoused or thrown out"
So painful for this librarian to read. @kevinmkruse.bsky.social think of the secrets about to be lost, some forever
Don't pregame the driveway. City might come through with salt on the roads before anything comes down. Be careful with pets outside after you shovel if you put anything down that isn't pet-safe.
"This promise of an AI future, is really just a collective anxiety that wealthy people have about how well they're gonna be able to control us in the future."
- @tressiemcphd.bsky.social with an absolute mic drop moment about AI bullshit.
Incredible words.
Listen to all of it!
