To his minions: break the law to serve me and you won’t wind up in jail.
To everyone else: the presidential pardon store is open for business!

The past week’s glorious images from space have been a welcome relief from the rest of the news cycle chaos. Perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to send another image of peace out to the ether.
$46 billion for an unwanted border wall but slashed or zeroed-out budgets for housing, food, healthcare, natural disaster relief, and pretty much every other thing that actually gives Americans a slightly better life.

The older I get — and the closer I come to my own death — the clearer it becomes that extreme life extension is a sure path to destroying our future. Imagine our current crop of oligarchs and authoritarians buying their way to effective immortality.

Up to 200,000 people thronged the Boston Common during today’s No Kings protest. The vibe was festive and lighthearted, but with an always-on undercurrent of steel. Everyone knew why we were there and the history of dissent that preceded us.

Jim Himes: Complicit with Trump/Patel surveillance abuses, and therefore ripe for a primary challenge.

With leaps in tech and conscious smashing of any restraints against the corrupt use of government surveillance, the dystopian nightmares born of the Patriot Act have become our reality. Congress can do something. And this time, we need to push to ensure they do.

If you vote for the new $50 billion supplemental appropriations package, you are voting to force us to pay for more of this.
I forgot to include “…corrupt enough to want to cash in while the getting is good” in that list of reasons.

Surely every Trump appointee must see they’re being teed up as the fall guy for his failures. Easy enough to do given they’re rarely qualified for the job. Yet they’re always vain, narcissistic, or just plain dumb enough to think they’ll be different. But nope.
A screencap of a Boston Globe headline reads: ANALYSIS Trump’s ‘shock and huh?’ military attack on Iran What’s truly remarkable about President Trump’s decision to attack Iran is just how little Trump has talked about or explained any coherent rationale to the American people. James Pindell February 28th, 2026, 5:37 pm
A Boston Globe headline for an analysis piece, with the unstated acknowledgement that Trump has given us no coherent rationale for this war because there isn’t any. At least, no valid reason—impulsivity, a need to from his failures, and taking narcissistic pleasure in dealing out death don’t count.
Technically part of a series, but it totally stands on its own: The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. I just listened to it, and something about its thoughtful yet light-hearted — and good-hearted — tone seems perfect as a counter to these bleak and angry days.
Meanwhile most of the rest of us are juggling rent, groceries, medical bills, and childcare.
“Trump did not have an `I feel your pain’ moment in this speech.”
Empathy coming from that mouth? 🤣

How a Planned Disney World Vacation Turned Into Four Months in Immigration Detention
A 9-year-old shares her story of being held at the nation’s only operating detention center for immigrant families in Dilley, Texas.
I had my little desktop and laptop Macs chugging along with SETI@Home for the entire 21-year run. The story’s not over, but some good science has come out of it. Spoiler alert: no ETs found… at least not yet!

Sure, state efforts at climate adaptation are illegally blocked while FEMA disaster aid has been sabotaged and bungled, but at least Kristi Noem found the $200M she needed for her Bezos-style personal jets.

A dot matrix printout on a tractor-feed paper banner reads, “ICE OUT!”
The medium looks folksy: a vintage tractor-feed, dot matrix printout that brings up fond memories of 80s-era computing (Print Shop! Commodore 64! Apple II! Epson printers!), but the message is just as urgent and emphatic as every other form.
If you are wondering what words the all-male Congress found so "blasphemous" that they felt compelled to literally scrape them off the monument, they were: ''Woman, first denied a soul, then called mindless, now arisen, declared herself an entity to be reckoned.''
It took a while but these women are back in the light, and it seems we’ll fight the same fight with all the monuments, plaques, web sites, and exhibits depicting women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ people which are being hastily torn down by the current bunch of small, weak, and resentful men in DC.
