OHSU Primate Center Workers to Lose Access to Nearby Treatment for Exposure to Monkey Diseases Anthony Effinger

Employees depended on Providence’s St. Vincent Medical Center because it was close by, and primate bites and scratches require immediate attention.

OHSU gets tens of millions of taxpayer dollars every year to run its primate center, but can't provide basic treatment for it's staff? Bites and scratches are frightening common when thousands of monkeys are crammed into cages. Dangerous, cruel, and ineffective. It needs to be shut down.

And if you don't care about monkeys, corruption, or the environmental consequences of decimating a keystone species, consider the potential risks to public health and so-called 'science' of importing and experimenting on monkeys with unknown health histories.

Imagine the terror of watching the surrounding trees being chopped down, leaving you nowhere to go but into the nets of poachers. Then they shove you into a sack and tie you up until the middlemen come for you.

This kind of news makes me never want to move back to Utah. Proud to see my OR Governor @govtinakotek.bsky.social taking a stand against the OHSU primate center, which imprisons 5000 primates and subjects them to needless and cruel experiments with our tax dollars. Shut it down

It’s a Gamble U.S. Officials Won’t Take—but Canada Continues to Allow Monkey Imports More monkeys will be killed in experiments after the notorious Charles River Laboratories was found to be up to no good again. Tell Canadian officials to stop letting it get away with this!

While the U.S. has halted monkey imports from Cambodia since early 2023, Charles River Laboratories just shifted to Canada, importing more than 6,800 endangered monkeys from Cambodia since with more LITERALLY on the way aboard SkyTaxi right now. Take action: peta.org/canadalabs
