Columbia facilitated ICE detaining a Palestinian student while his wife, 8 months, pregnant watched. I just can’t.

Here’s how some Philly high school students built a library from scratch. ‘Kids just kept coming, renewing books.’ “We all grew up without a library,” one KHSA senior said. “That had an effect on a lot of kids."

"What if a grp of students at a Philly high school that never had its own library created one from scratch?" Stories like this are always 🥰, but they remind us (as the article notes) of systemic problems: the Philly School District has TWO full-time certified school librarians across 216 schools! 🎁

As someone who previously worked for HRW, I can attest that the organization is extremely careful using the term “genocide.” They resisted applying it in Yugoslavia and Darfur. The fact that they use the term here is highly meaningful.

If you use Amazon, this is free for you. Amazon pays it. While you're binging Squid Game or whatever, spend a few seconds in the app to make a giant company give your drivers five bucks.

Also— maybe Assad put children in there, but even worse, it’s highly possible those children were born in there.

Regardless of what happens next, these videos have me in tears. May all the notorious prisons be emptied, may all the people be free.

And for any journalists on here, a plea— I know it’s not technically required to ask someone before using their social media posts in a story, but it’s common courtesy and could save someone a lot of grief.

With news of a ceasefire deal for Lebanon being announced in the next 24 hours, the bombing in and around the capital has intensified to the highest degree.

They did the same in 2006, in the few days before applying the ceasefire, they just emptied their stockpile on Lebanon.

Madness truly.

What is happening in the north is beyond comprehension, and the Israeli government and IDF have gone out of their way to ensure that the media has a hard time reporting it. Myself and @farrahfazal.bsky.social gathered some testimony, but it is one sliver of the horrors.

lot of negativity towards AI lately, but consider :

are these tools ethical or environmentally sustainable? No.

*but* do they enable great things that people want? Also no.

*but* are they being made by well meaning people for good reasons? Once again, no.

maybe you're not being negative *enough*
