This might be a moment we look back on as the beginning of something beautiful

Councilor Smith has brought last minute amendments to the Keep Portland Housed Amendment and it cuts into the social housing fund to give money to organizations of her choosing, whose proposals have not gone through any vetting.
This is pork barrel politics and that's not a compliment.
PORTLAND CITY COUNCIL: PASS THE TAO INTACT! EUND SOCIAL HOUSING RENT BUY DOWNS RENT ASSISTANCE!
Big vote tonight at city council.
Last week, the council advanced a millions toward rent assistance, rental buy downs, & social housing.
Councilors are facing pressure to make last minute carveouts for unvetted developments.
Tell your councilors you want this generational investment!
These are the kind of images that are on the website to advertise. How many images like this have we seen out of Gaza, just before unarmed human beings are killed or maimed, their rescuers double-tapped too? What kind of world do we want to live in? What kind of business does PDX want to nurture?
Portland residents, @portlanddsa.bsky.social learned that a local company called Sightline Intelligence is shipping lethal drone tech to Israel. Take 2 mins to click & ask electeds to look into Sightline, which uses PDX area footage in its chilling promo materials: actionnetwork.org/letters/sigh...
away. I know services for DD adults exist in the U.S., but nowhere near enough. A MUCH better world is possible, in so many different ways, and the urgency to build it is massive. It’s easy to get discouraged by how much work it would take to get there, but we don’t have that luxury. (3/3)
each day and build connections with peers, and contribute in a way that feels meaningful. I was lucky to visit a friend in Belgium who worked with disabled adults in a place like this. They made art, went on trips together. They had strong friendships and were out in the community, not hidden (2/3)
Just started the new season of Love on the Spectrum. An important thing this series shows is how common isolation is among autistic young adults. One participant is 22 and spends 12 hours in a tiny apartment while his mother works. In a just, functional society he would have a safe place to go (1/3)
The official position of the Democratic Party today is "Fingers crossed!"
"King pointed to Preschool for All as an example of the kind of local program that should significantly benefit the city’s economy in time, and she believes the program should be expanded further."

This is good coverage of the CEI Hub press conference earlier today where over 80 (!) neighborhood associations & community organizations called on city council to enact strong safety protections at the fuel hub.
@senkhanhpham.bsky.social &
@councilorgreen.bsky.social gave strong words of support!
I would love to pay this tax some day! That’s the real Portland Dream.😎
The AIPAC tracker is good and we should say it!
Thank you! I know it’s just another thing to remember and most teachers are maxed out. I’ll offer to turn it on/replace filters if it’s helpful. It’s one of the few factors any of us can control right now, so we might as well do it.
A new contagious COVID variant is spreading after a long lull, and it sucks being among the few still trying to avoid it. I try not to complain too often, but I’m tired.
Time to ask my kid’s school to consider turning on the air purifiers again and hope I’m not annoying. I know they’re tired too.
This was my experience in tech marketing. Everyone in leadership is on the board of other tech companies so by forcing employees to use it, they’re either trying to boost their own stock profile or scratching backs for others boosting theirs. Pretty gross!
Expanding the successful program we already have would be a great way to get there – when we see that she’s taking meaningful steps in that direction, then we can thank her, and help her get there! (2/2)
Yes. There is truly nothing to thank her for in this regard yet. And those of us monitoring this situation closely have every reason to think she is still gunning for Preschool for All, even while dangling the possibility of a statewide program. (1/2)
Yes. It’s really jarring to go from X where I’m still wading through the shit to get good international coverage, medical news, what have you, to the echo chamber that is Bsky. I enjoy the local stuff on Bsky but it’s such a small slice of the population that are actually on here for now.
I get that you want to be able to thank her while also pushing her to do better - but she didn’t invest in Preschool for All. She’s only threatened the program and pressured electeds to defund it. Pls consider taking this down - we don’t want people to think the threat has passed when it hasn’t.🙏
Black text on playful green backgrounds: “Just this week, I spoke with parents who left the workforce or decided against having more children because of the cost of childcare. Being a parent to young kids is already hard enough — it should not also come with a price tag that forces families to the breaking point. Preschool for All is the voter-approved solution to this problem, and it is long past time to deliver on its promise. Preschool for All is exactly the kind of policy Multnomah County should be championing: family-friendly, future-focused, and community-building. Instead of giving in to false narratives about tax flight, we should be proud of policies that support families with roots here and attract new ones who want to contribute to our community. Rolling back or delaying this program now would be a betrayal of the voters who passed it overwhelmingly — and of the families who need it most.” - Ian M
“Family-friendly, future-focused and community-building” is right!
We’re so proud of what we’re building here in Multnomah County! 🏗️👷♀️🚸
Wow it’s almost like we NEED FREE PRESCHOOL FOR ALL
Hell yeah @councilorgreen.bsky.social
This might be Clickhole, but I think of it almost every day.
Black text on playful yellow backgrounds: “As a teacher and a parent, Preschool for All is necessary for our community. It helped so much to have Preschool for All for my son when he was 3 and 4. Then once his sister was 1 and he was 5 we had to get ERDC. But If Preschool for All goes away I fear I will lose my housing. I need Preschool for All in place for my soon to be 3 year old. I can’t afford the high prices of daycare / preschool and like so many families it helps us afford housing, food, clothing, etc.” - Lisa A
Lisa’s story is one many of us recognise, feeling like we’re one budget cut away from losing a load bearing support in our lives. Times are tough on the state-level, and a disaster on the federal, so here in Multnomah County we need to ensure we’ve got resources to take care of ourselves.
Serial harasser and bigot Brian Owendoff is back in the news today. 👇
Owendoff’s antics and lack of self control have given us a glimpse into the right wing networks that work behind the scenes to keep the rich and powerful in control.
Also, when will Dan Ryan release his texts with Owendoff?
Black text on playful green backgrounds: “I am a pastor, elder of this community, longtime resident, advocate, business owner and proud G-Mom of a precocious grandson named Francois who has truly benefited from ‘ Preschool For All’. In addition to providing child care to intergenerational families like mine and supporting our child care workforce (wherein I’ve previously operated a successful child care so that working parents can go to work or school) I support this program because as an ‘active’ grandparent who supports not only my family but others through advocacy, counseling and mentoring, my daughter relies on child care to go to work because I’m a ‘Granny on the Run’. She depends on programs like ‘Preschool for All’ to cover the cost of child care which is now more than the cost of her rent. Use all available resources to roll out the program to all children as quickly as possible because I’m not that Granny who sits in a rocker but a Granny on the move like many of my contemporaries because we’re trying to keep a roof over our heads, too. 😊 “ - Pastor Renee’ W
✨We’re happy to say that Multnomah County took Pastor Renee’s advice😉 and added hundreds more seats ahead of schedule for this year! With about 15,000 preschool age kids in the County, we still have a ways to go.

This feels disqualifying, until you realize their own voters want govt to fail so it can be declared a failure. Deliberately sticking a knife in it is the plan.
This has PMC written all over it. Does anyone think it’s weird that we pay these people with our tax money to…try to steal more of our tax money?
