It was done on pasture.. yes horses on a rectangular pasture will probably move close to the same amount as on a track because they NEED to move to find food. That's not what tracks are for? The point of a track is to mimic grazing when there is no grass ๐Ÿคฆ

I gave my horses so many carrots yesterday they didn't even bother with resource guarding them by the end of the day.

One of my biggest reinforcers for being with horses.. has nothing to do with horses. I love the fact that I get to see things I would otherwise not notice. Today I drove to the stables at 17.. it's not pitch black. (Pic of a sunrise a few days ago I def would've missed if I didn't have horses)

Science denial is big in the traditional equestrian community. Reading this book atm and summarizing it for horse people over on tt, the best thing up until now is him saying we should ask the question "What evidence would it take for you to change your mind".

Some of the clearest signs of possible ulcers.

Sharing this relic from well over a year ago because it's still valid although I'm definitely more comfortable speaking nowadays.

Yes you can absolutely still see signs of a painface but a lot of people focus on the eye and aren't as good at noticing the less obvious signs (like the tight lips) so they see a relaxed horse on the left ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Here's an example of what I was talking about a few days ago: Emil has a cold and a fever in the picture on the left, he's definitely experiencing discomfort but as you can see he has a rather relaxed expression. Don't disqualify other signs of pain!

I had the random opportunity to capture and reinforce Emil's sit, which he often does just before deciding to fully get up. I've always been just out of reach. I'd love to slowly build on this.

Painface should never be the standard we use to tell if a horse is in pain, it should be ONE of the tools we use. Horses won't show clear signs of a pain face every time they feel discomfort and we should never minimize other signs of pain just because we don't see a triangulated eye.

Ethical training practices build upon a sturdy ethological foundation. For horses the three Fs summarize it neatly: friends forage and freedom.
