*Otto sighs. He was afraid it would come to this. This matter needs to be settled for good* Well then, we mustn't keep the King waiting. We shall settle this once and for all. Daemon cannot see just how wild his own daughter is. He must be made to see it. The King can see to that.

He does not wish to see them dead but he knows that there must be consequences for what has transpired. He wonders if there would be a way to have their sentences lessened somewhat. He had counseled peace with Viserys, after all. Maybe he could offer counsel to Rhaenyra and Alyssa on this matter.

She also reminds him that he would have to earn a hell of a lot of trust as no one trusts him at present. He understands this, as he knows he has done much to undermine Rhaenyra. All the while Alicent wants her sons spared. Otto knows that his grandsons' fates are sealed and does not argue it.

Aemond is present and listening but Otto cannot look at him without feeling furious with his grandson himself. No wonder Alyssa has had enough. Aemond took away a chunk of her support system. Alyssa tells him that his request to join them would be put before Rhaenyra.

He begs her forgiveness on this matter and asks if it is too late to switch sides and declare for Rhaenyra as he is done with his daughter and grandsons at this point. He also declares that he agrees that Aemond must pay for what he has done. He understands her anger towards Aemond.

He learns that his daughter condoned the acts committed against Alyssa after swearing she wouldn't, just as he had sworn the same. This shocks and angers him, as he still refuses to condone such vile things even if Alyssa is an enemy. He tears into Alicent about it and apologizes to Alyssa.

But he still doesn't know all of the factors in play when it comes to Alyssa's terms following the battle. He is impressed that she even held her own in battle. When she comes to King's Landing after Gwayne sends word of Alicent's answer to the offered terms, he learns things that shock him.

(This is where there will be branches of the story.)

Version 1:

Otto learns of the events of the battle of Rook's Rest but doesn't have all of the details. He later learns everything from his son Gwayne. He realizes that things may be getting out of hand, that Cole and Aemond went too far.

He still secretly plots to keep Rhaenyra from inheriting the throne. Upon Viserys's death, he puts his plan to install Aegon on the throne in motion. Aegon is unwilling, even trying to run from the whole thing. He is crowned anyway and this sparks war. Otto knows they have a fight ahead of them.

He promises that the person responsible for it will be brought to justice. Alicent makes this same promise. He will find out years later that this was a falsehood on Alicent's part. It pains him to see the girl suffer. And to see Daemon in fear for her wellbeing. He swears that he'll keep his word.

This feeling extends to Daemon's daughter Alyssa. He views them as enemies. However, one night softens his resolve in that regard a little. A dark event happens, involving Alyssa. She is still a child. He witnesses it and swears to both Daemon and his daughter that he will not condone this.

Viserys does not herd this advice. He holds to having named Rhaenyra heir. He never changes his mind on the matter. Otto plots secretly to install Aegon on the Iron Throne, however. He does sympathize with his enemies on one event that takes place however. He has always despised Daemon.

He doesn't think the throne should pass to Rhaenyra since she is a girl. This kind of thinking ends up sparking a war years later. When Viserys has a son with Alicent and names him Aegon, he supports Aegon's claim over Rhaenyra's and pushes for him to named heir instead of Rhaenyra.

Otto Hightower is the father of Alicent and Gwayne. He is also Hand of the King to King Viserys I Targaryen. He seeks his own rise and therefore puts his daughter before the King upon Queen Aemma's death in a deceitful fashion. He seeks for her to become the new queen.
