Gila Monster Heal Thyself Creature Feature · Episode

I'm back on Creature Feature! I love this podcast & if you want to hear about medical advancements that we've made with the help of our animal friends (& you want to hear me embarrass myself by not knowing the color pattern of a giraffe) you're going love it too!

Ooooh because of the preservatives? Are you a fellow tortilla snob like me?

I wonder if this could to cause people to start trying to get medication from Europe to guarantee “safe” drugs by benefiting from EU regulations. Probably only well off people could afford to.

This week (Nov 19- 25) also starts GERD Awareness Week! If anyone is interested in learning something new here is a podcast about GERD.

I learned….

High fat diets can exacerbate GERD symptoms. Fat relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter and slows the rate that food moves through the stomach.

This is a topic near and dear to me (inside my esophagus) and it was an absolute delight to learn what the heck is wrong with me from two incredibly smart professionals!

Even more fun fact - the reason the population was small enough for this to be an issue was sue to a very misguided campaign by an umber of conservation NGOs including WWF to promote saiga horn as an alternative to rhino horn, leading populations to be decimated by hunting.

Sorry what? Did they actually pull a “Don’t target this majestic creature, target this other majestic creature!”

Their fluffy winter coats 😭

Love these little Star Wars looking guys. Not so fun fact: they’re endangered in large part because of huge herds dropping dead of a mysterious disease. It was later discovered that it’s likely caused by bacteria growth in their noses accelerated by uncommonly warm weather due to global warming.

Daily mammal fact:

The critically endangered saiga antelope once lived across the European steppe, but today it is restricted to Khazakstan and a teeny bit of Russia.

Their big noses help trap dust and warm cool air in winter.

They kindof look like alf.

Cool facts about opossums: they’re the only marsupials found in North America, and have pouches like kangaroos. When they “play dead” their body goes through thanatosis, a reflex that mimics death, including the slowing of their heart rate, and a release of a green stinky fluid from their anus.

I've noticed that there are very few accounts on here calling for the public murder of homeless people. Is this a bug? Will it be fixed?

2 years ago 252 34 14 0

It is truly frightening!

2 years ago 1 0 0 0

apparently you’re allowed to cold-blooded murder someone if they’ve been arrested before?

2 years ago 2 0 0 0

yeah I mean there’s been coy genocidal rhetoric against homeless people in the mainstream for a while now, but the gleeful cheering on of murder because a guy was disruptive on a train is so bleak.

The tonal shift from people saying they don’t want to “have to see” homeless people to straight up advocating murdering them is predictable but so so foreboding. my god.

I cannot even begin to state how much of a profound failure of leadership we have seen in the last 24h re: Jordan Neely.

Virtually every one of us is closer to being in Neely’s shoes than we think. How could any leader struggle to condemn violence? Being poor or sick is not a license to be killed

That makes sense, thanks for clarifying!
