Another benefit of using ESPHome to monitor your Victron stuff.

Not bad for a weekend with no sun... Only 110Ah (out of 280Ah).

Well, that camping trip is not what I had planned... Very wet, very cold. Not too bad though. Everything held up.

I was happy to get out again to do a shake down trip before my big trip coming up.

Custom esp. based LCD screen for solar stats in my camper

Custom esp. based LCD screen for solar stats in my camper

I wanted to modify my custom ESPHome based charging status screen in my camper while I am out camping.

It is connected to a router, which is VPN'ed over Starlink, to my home network. I was able to push an update from ESPHome dashboard with no issue WHILE I am camping... Crazy

To be fair, most of this was Claude code, but this took a fair amount of thought and context before I started to get what I wanted.

I made sure to review the code, made sure it ran and tests made sense.

And now, a Home Assistant integration!

I have dreamed about this, but lacked the motivation to figure it out.

Muddy / FrameIT · GitLab FrameIt is a simple Python Flask application which displays Movie posters

Major updates to my FrameIT app...

Thanks to Claude code for making it possible, I was able to create a full, end to end, solution for turning a Raspberry pi, into a simple Movie poster, and trailer screen for my home theater.

Check it out! https://gitlab.com/muddy6910/frameit

Still confused, should I be excited about this, or worried 🤔

I have more than enough space to fit my 150GB Music library lol space is no longer the issue.

That is why I continue to use Plexamp as my primary music source, and I have a much better experience because of it.

It's wild how hard it used to be to get music digitally.

I was so proud back in the day of my iTunes library I shared over the network.

Now we have Plex, Plexamp (which is perfect). With streaming though, it is hard to justify why I need my own music library anymore...

Especially when YouTube […]

Claude Code is addictive, and I am not kidding.

Just your daily reminder to get off the computer for a bit, and smell the flowers every once in a while 😎

Meaning, he saw this guy as a threat from the get-go, he never considered that the guy was having a mental health crisis.

He just shot, he just panicked.

Kudos to the other officers on scene, they tried to help this guy. They understood, and clearly were trying what they could to get him to […]

If you have a Ring camera, understand what data you are giving up, and what it could mean later.

Just because it does not directly affect you at the time, doesn't mean that data can't be used against you in the future.

I love the example here about insurance companies. That is spot on […]

AI CAN BE WRONG, STOP BLINDLY TRUSTING IT

Letting AI churn on it, helps us deliver a quality release, and saves us from production outages, I see this as a huge win.

3 weeks ago 0 0 0 0

Again, I hate that AI can do this,

And I hate how bad it makes me look as a developer...

But lets face it... I need those things, and I have so much work to do, unit tests are the LAST thing I would ever do if I had extra time.

3 weeks ago 0 0 0 0

Overall, I am impressed with it. But we will see how these tests hold up, and we will see if it can continue to write them based on the spec it designed as part of this work.

I let Claude churn on our biggest app today. The repo has hundreds of thousands lines of code.

It contains modules from various different time periods, and poorly written code.

1. Claude took about 6 hours today to get the tests working.

2. I started with around 100 tests, and ended with 490 […]

One practical use-case for AI, is unit tests.

But you are going to pay BIG for it to fully understand, implement, and test your unit tests.

So if cost is no issue for you, sure it works great for that, with enough time and money.

Add camera dashboard, MJPEG live view, and recording controls (1e67b86b) · Commits · Muddy / Dashy · GitLab - viofo.py: add control command IDs, get_camera_info(), start/stop recording, take_photo(), mjpeg_url property - dashy_web.py: add /cam/live, /cam/mjpeg_stream proxy, /api/cam/info, /api/cam/control routes - live.html: new page with MJPEG stream, Start/Stop/Photo controls,...

Another thing I would never do otherwise:

Use the Viofo APK to figure out the camera's API for settings.

I know HOW to do it, I do not have the time or will power TO do it.

But Claude does, and I hate it...

Yes, I did use AI to make these changes, but I made UI improvements, switched to sqlite, and completely overhauled the connectivity check logic (making it dead simple).

These are things I did not have the time, patients, or motivation to do on my own. AI helped me think through it.

I hate it […]

The other benefit of using a wireless bridge, is I can also use my iPhone hotspot as a backup connection.

So I have 3 potential ways to connect all of my devices to the internet. 😂

Alright, honestly, my Starlink Mini makes a perfect backup WAN connection...

I used a Raspberry Pi as a WLAN bridge, since my Starlink is on my camper. This is hooked up via POE, near the camper for best signal.

If I lost my internet again, at least I could do basic things with this connection...

The biggest change when I came to the Fediverse, is the lack of a need to open my phone, and check my social media every 5 mins...

I come on here when I want to, scroll for a bit, and move on. I don't get sucked in, I don't feel bad about myself, and I am happy I am here.
