You seem nice.
Did Rush stop being Rush when John Rutsey left?
Did someone say he was still alive?
There is certainly more access now but I still managed to find plenty of good stuff pre-internet. My area didn’t get cable until ‘89. In addition to radio I had TV, magazines, books, record stores, concerts, & friends/family that turned me onto tons of music I otherwise wouldn’t have heard.
This reminds me of when I try to get the word out on a band or album I love & then when they make a bigger splash everyone acts like it’s the first they’ve heard of them.
I was surprised (or maybe I shouldn’t have been) when a member of one of the writing workshops I attend suggested using AI to help with writing to a prompt they made.
Even though Mike Mills says in Cool Town that the scene was already over by the time it came to the attention of the music media, I loved the glimpse into it that Athens, GA Inside/Out provided. Something not so altogether different was happening relatively close to me in the Triangle area of NC.
I first heard this on WQDR who were also playing deep cuts from the album such as “Pretty Persuasion.” It would not be until the release of the Succumbs video compilation in 1987 that I’d see the video.
I bought Reckoning shortly after it came out from Sound Shop at Vernon Park Mall in Kinston.
A bigger issue is the system that came with my car often shuts off. It also affects the instrument panel. Until I have the means to have it repaired I’m just going to have to deal with it. Same for the AC which is also intermittent. I’m just thankful to have transportation.
I fully understand all the issues with streaming but at present my CD collection is in storage. I have no plans to part with it but at the same time I don’t see myself going back to lugging around binders of CDs.
I know it is perceived as pretty conservative but having attended a few of the IBMA fests when they were in Raleigh, I couldn’t help but notice a good deal of forward thinking artists, not all of which fell under the “jamgrass” category. One of my faves are the Railsplitters.
Same. 30 years into their career I’m intrigued by how the Truckers’ influence has manifested itself in other artists: Ethel, Wednesday, MJ Lenderman, Florry, & Waxahatchee, to name but a few. Ethel owns this.
A haunting version that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about since I first heard it last night. She inhabits the song in her own way without really altering the original arrangement. A rare feat, at least to my ears.
Interview.

I didn’t say I didn’t like the song. There are many songs I’m burned out after years of hearing them.
Perfect fit for Ethel. She nails it.
