In another universe it could be “take the train” given that there’s a dedicated passenger rail line that follows a similar route as this bus, but alas next train was coming 50 minutes from the time of the post, then again 135 minutes (!) later, then once more that evening 120 minutes after that.

"A full list of the stations receiving improvements was not immediately released Tuesday."
Though still skeptical on that, I’m not against a boulevard pulse- a single seat trip from Hyde Park to the southwest side would be great. And it makes sense to connect the jobs centers at Midway and Hyde Park. Could it lay the groundwork for infill stations at Garfield on the rock island and sws?
I suppose during peak traffic you might be right- but most of the time it wouldn’t be faster than simply doing the last three miles on the 55 bus. diverting half a mile north to the orange line to wait for a train that’ll take another 10 minutes to get there isn’t terribly attractive
Running shuttles from Ashland and Cottage Grove to Garfield certainly makes sense. I’m not sold on the Boulevard Pulse though- are the 15, 39, 42, 47, 55, 59, and 63 just not doing it for you? I might rather see improved service across as many of these lines as possible over a single new service
As a longtime resident of the neighborhood I could care less about the price of the museum- I am excited to have the construction project done, parkland back (including parkland reclaimed from an unnecessary, loud, and dangerous roadway) and a new CPL branch though
Every time this is reported the headline makes it sound like the whole project will be ticketed, when in fact only a tiny portion constitutes the ticketed museum, with the rest free and open to the public. not the project’s biggest fan but most of the grounds effectively return to parkland in June
Conservatively 50 million tax filers pay these companies $100 a year, so spending $7 million saved the companies $5 billion in revenue. Not a bad ROI!
Not what you’re asking, but in Chicago I believe it was 1926 when 51st st to Kensington (115th) was quad tracked (and electrified) on the IC
so the claim is that "climate change is a hoax" is "misinformation" and "rot" in an equivalent sense as... describing projected impacts of climate change from a baseline of no climate change. isn't that.. how every policy is scored by the media? isn't it common sense? what is happening?
and that same guy would almost certainly be furious if he saw a cyclist taking the same route down that street
I know a hit and run victim who was told by CPD that they would need to publicly release the victim’s home address if they pursued charges, and that the perpetrator had a criminal record and might retaliate. So the perpetrator just got to keep on hitting and running, I guess. Great work, cops!
I walked down Front street to Kensington after work every day for years hoping that one day the guys would be out and offer me a beer for the train. It happened once and I’ll never forget! I also happen to know that the nearby high school’s staff had some of their best ever social events there.

Taking Wacker in this case is definitely saving a few minutes though. Drivers certainly don’t need 3 lanes in each direction on Wacker- take one or two back from them! (Though CDOT should do this for us- completely ridiculous that they haven’t yet).
And the above ground? Is it the errant blue data point at the bottom? $99k? I’m a bit confused by the whole thing to be honest. But I agree that parking minimums are ridiculous!
Writing from Portland- are the Portland data points missing because this city is so cool?
Congrats Steven!!! You… did a lot (in a good way)
Chicagohenge season is upon us
I think I speak for Illinois when I say that I’m looking forward to Juliana Stratton holding up not one but two Supreme Court vacancy appointments in the 120th congress so the great Kahn can set the ideological direction of the high court in 2029
As someone who lives just outside of IL-2- it was the second worst news. national politics are more important (as much as the local nickel and diming corruption pisses me off). Progressive organizations in Illinois should have gotten behind Robert Peters. He’d have made a difference in Washington.
Even if it proves fruitless, DAs are leaders specifically elected to uphold the law. There are plenty around the country showing their voters that they believe the law applies to federal agents. Burke O’Neil has not IMO. She won her primary by 0.02% which is a shame www.nytimes.com/2026/01/27/u...
But we’re likely to end up with something like a Vallas light vs Johnson runoff. Second most likely seems like a Vallas light vs Vallas unhinged runoff. Ultimately advocates cannot stop ever. And we could be doing a lot worse in terms of progressive and effective policy, believe it or not.
Many props to you and others who call out MBJ’s electoral, administrative, and legislative failures and continue advocating for effective local government. Hopefully we have a good general election in February with credible candidates who make these critiques and show an ability to do better.
Chief Judge Michael Brennan and Judge Michael Scudder must be impeached on January 3, 2027
am I missing some subtlety here? what are you saying? she’s running in the us senate primary in Texas, presumably against other people who are also care about those things. right?
Used to feel the same, but the park has been closed for so long now I’m just really excited for it to reopen. Also bsky.app/profile/will...
This is the thing that needs to be said again and again and again and again across all media between now and November. Affordability is an important message but I’m afraid the straightforward, blatant corruption won’t get through to people unless you hit them over the head with it. Many times.
