Literally everything boiled until there was no form to it. Except meat. That was fried or baked into shoe leather.
Oh, and chuck wagon patties
She’s always made a mean pot roast though. That was perfection.

A poem
F*ck my feet
Hurt so bad
Especially the right one
It is mad
Plantar fasciitis is no joke, children
Be kind to your feet

Book covers for Peony in Love, The Impossible Fortune, One Dark Window, Murder in Black Tie, The Gardener's Plot, The Next Day, The Book Thief, The Correspondent, Ordinary Grace, The Winners, Binti, The Complete Binti Trilogy, Greenteeth, Binti: Home, Binti: Night Masquerade, and Radium Girls.
My reads for March. 1) I included the Binti trilogy cover for its bonus fourth story, which I loved because it gave the characters even more depth. 2) The Correspondent lived up to the hype. 3) I recommend Greenteeth if you want a creative blend of fae and folklore (British/Celtic). #BookSky 💙📚
Caught up on reading and errands but the best part of today is that I managed to get in both a nap and a hike and I’m pretty impressed with myself about it
It’s a great story. And writing it is SO much fun. The whole of it is there, already written in my head. So then why do I procrastinate the sitting down and doing of it?

Scrolling the web, looking at houses on the market in County Mayo, Ireland. Instead of writing.

I hate Microsoft SO much
I also can’t realistically write more than 2, maybe 3 (on a great day), hours at a time and some of that writing time is actually spent daydreaming or thinking about my plot/characters/scenes. I count it all as writing and some days there is more deleting than adding words to the page.
Plugging away at a manuscript a few hundred words at a time feels slow and tedious; like you’re going nowhere. But 777 words/day = 23,310/month = 69,930 in 3 months. Add that to the 30k words you’ve already written and, boom, you have a story.
You can do it

Reluctantly joined the 5am club this morning not from discipline and dedication, but from insomnia. I got a few words on the page, but let’s hope this never happens again.

Write 300 words, delete 700. Sounds about right.
Right! I’ve been devouring Terry Pratchett lately and can’t say enough good things about him. I also really like post apocalyptic, utopian, mythology based. I know there has to be more out there than I’m aware of. I want to find all the good stuff
What’s your favorite speculative fiction that you’ve read in the last year? There can be more than one if it’s really a favorite

i gathered sentences
like seeds,
like bones,
like prayers,
& buried them
inside myself
until i grew
a voice.

Finally head down, making some progress on my WIP and it feels STRANGE to be drafting again after so many months editing, rewriting, and querying. It’s a different muscle. #amwriting #writingcommunity
It’s one of those times where I could sit up all night reading if it weren’t for the prospect of work tomorrow. It wouldn’t be the first time, but I’m older now.
My opponent just made a blunder which will award me his queen. I am giddy waiting for him to move his king out of check.
Finally sitting down and getting words on pages! Sadly, I’m having to reread chapters and chapters of my WIP to get my head back in the game. I’ve been too long away and forgotten many of my previous plot ideas.

My goal this week is to write 1000 words. It’s a modest goal and should be easy but it hasn’t been. So I’m committed. Might be words I’ve already written. Might be someone else’s words. But whether by pen or keystroke, I will get them on the page.

I love this and when I’m thinking about the new year, I always forget about it. Thanks for the reminder - and for checking the database
Trust me, there's no such thing as a rough draft or a final draft. It's just you writing forever.

I’m meant to be preparing the house for a 21st bday party and calling my insurance company about water damage to kitchen ceiling. Instead I’m treating myself to a bottle of wine and an all day line up of sappy movies that make me cry.

I would like to get my head back in a creative space. Work demands, caring for an aging parent, even vacation travel have me out of sorts. And now come the holidays
When you’re having a solo dinner at the neighborhood restaurant and Bobby McGee comes on the radio. Apologies to the other patrons for what’s about to go down.
Just back from a whirlwind week and a half in Ireland. Cant believe I’m back to work tomorrow; it seems surreal. Wish it had been more chill - next time I’ll travel alone. But I have tons of priceless memories and experiences that will last forever. #noregrets #ireland #travelireland
