Rebecca Archer’s daughter died of measles that she contracted before she was old enough to be vaccinated. “Parents must realize that refusing vaccinations doesn’t just put your own child at risk. It puts other children at risk,” Archer writes.
Hate to break it to this CEO, but as a Napan, I know that wine sales cannot survive on CEOs alone. It requires regular people, the kind of people he wants to fire, to buy it. You also need water and a healthy climate, two things at risk from AI data centers. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
Lets go Virginia!!! Vote Yes on Redistricting!!! Republicans have been quick to chastise Dems for this but were quiet as church mice when texas did this...
Donald started this, let's make him regret ever starting a fight and not expecting the people to fight back!
This was such a fun interview to do and it’s the first time anyone has asked me about how California influenced me as a scientist
Netanyahu ought to be in prison. As should every global leader who has enabled/colluded with him. These kinds of abuse should never be normalised
Seems to me like Trump is desperately begging Iran to sign a replica of the Obama JCPOA he tore up. All for the low low price of thousands dead, global instability, high energy prices, and a toll on ships through the once-free strait of Hormuz.
After Condé Nast's decision to close SELF, I spoke to chronically ill women about what the women's health site meant to them.
"We have to acknowledge chronic illness as a politically, culturally, and socially marginalized category"

A whole new scam aimed at writers:
- get an email from a writers conference asking for you as a speaker
- google the conference: it's real
- say 'yeah, let's do it'
- the 'fee' is mentioned for the first time
- you check with friends listed for the event and find out the email reply address is fake
I’m so sorry.
This is a big one. Stellar reporting from Sarah Fitzpatrick. To call it a must-read is an understatement: www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...
mRNA technology may be THE most underrated and unfairly scrutinized (fuck you COVID antivax crew) medical breakthrough in my lifetime.
Like... The things this is already showing it can do in the last 5-7 years is incredible.
anyone who knew someone with pancreatic cancer knows how big of a deal this is

Pretty frustrating that the New York Times is crediting AP with uncovering the existence of Aadam’s archive when I reported on it 15 months prior. chicagoreader.com/music/gossip...
My annual reminder that if you need to buy a window A/C this year do not simply buy the largest model you can afford. Energy Star has a sizing guide.
Why do you want an AC that is sized for your room?
Because an undersized A/C won't cool well and an oversized A/C will leave a space humid
Remarkable.
This is hilarious. Colbert needs a bulletproof suit.
NEW: We caught a site run by a buzzy PR firm ripping off local and national journalism at an almost incomprehensible scale -- it's like a fully automatic machine gun spraying bullets of pure plagiarism directly into the internet

So, slavery.
Whew, you could write a whole grad student dissertation on this excerpt. One issue is the use of "elite." I'm sure Mamdani's parents are doing fine, but "Manhattan elite" is a realm of billionaires, not a filmmaker and a college professor. Their wealth and power is a rounding error to Jamie Dimon.
The fact that Mamdani just seems like a cheerful normal guy who's policies are things like "we're going to tax second homes to fund pothole repairs" or whatever and yet this generates panicked responses like "This is basically Stalin's great purge turned up to eleven" is... telling. It tells things.
Heartbreaking description of the pointless, thoughtless damage being done to the Kennedy Center. It was such an important part of life in Washington, and is now being destroyed for no reason

1. In a landmark ruling, the Montana Supreme Court has declared that the constitution, one of the most progressive in the nation, entirely protects transgender people.
The ruling is even insulated from SCOTUS decisions, due to how state constitutions work.

🚨BREAKING: The North Carolina State Board of Elections’s Republican majority voted to move forward with using a federal immigration database to check the state’s voter rolls — an escalation in the board’s ongoing effort to scrutinize voter rolls that could put eligible voters at risk.
this is why you're not supposed to cross those databases, idiots
