you know what, i see that typo and honestly i should have called the bus ā€œthe buttā€ because that’s how it feels to try to take transit around here sometimes

1 day ago 0 0 0 0

on one hand i get the accessibility and logistics of it, but denver’s transit is really held back by having stops at basically every block and routing so many lines through union station that it turns broadway into a dividing line for east-west travel

i was hoping to take the bus to get some coffee and see a movie today. should be rather easy since the coffee shop, theater, and me are all on the same street that the bus runs along. but no, the but will take three times as long and require a transfer

men can’t understand what it’s like for women to see story after story after story of women being victims of sexual violence in a culture where it’s routine; what it’s like to live in a world that is fundamentally hostile to our existence. it’s a wonder we leave the fucking house, let alone thrive.

i chord and hotkey pretty aggressively when i’m in keyboard mode, not quite to emacs pervert level but sometimes i feel like i’m getting close

the mouse driven bits of my workflow are heavily informed by almost exclusively doing design work for college + first few jobs

i am a hybrid (derogatory)

some people map mouse buttons for this stuff, but i spent a long time with the magic mouse because the combo of pointer device and trackpad worked well for me

the root pathology: i’m an adhd lefty and often have something in my dominant hand (like a pencil) that prevents effective hot-keying

i have this same setup. the reason for the right-side is essentially ā€œdrag and drop behind what i’m looking atā€

i think started using the lock screen hot corner when i first worked in a place that gave me a big monitor for my macbook and closing the lid just pushed everything to the big screen lol

what’s wrong with ā€œnom de on lineā€

lol but seriously identity in online/digital space would be such a fascinating research project if approached from a community/identity formation and placemaking perspective

ā€œas a user i want the product team to stop adding features so i can rely on the product to continue being the thing i find useful todayā€

so the references I want to toss into "the machine" might be a game I want to play or a book I want to read for fun, but could also be a paper I'm about to read for scienceā„¢ or an article to annotate and respond to

a personal problem that I will maybe one day solve lol

3 days ago 1 0 0 0

the state I would ultimately like to get to is a "reading material crunching machine" that can intake a reference to something and sort it into the appropriate place for me to find it again and actually read it in the proper context

but with the caveat that to me "reading" is expansive

the obsidian plugin for readeck has some funky edges and I might finally make a fork of it to work the way I want it to (specifically: customizable content and path templates)

I also need to look into using APIs to pipe stuff I read to linkhut/are.na/zotero and cool-kid apps like @semble.so

3 days ago 1 0 1 0

one of the best things I've done for my article-reading habits is set a locally hosted @readeck.bsky.social instance and start using singlefile to save stuff in there, then sync the stuff I read (+ highlights and notes!) over to obsidian

slack did a bit of this too i think, but since it was already ā€œwhere work happenedā€ it didn’t feel like it was taking undue space so much as trying (and sometimes failing) to let you do more from where you already were

1000% my feeling as well lol

it’s just so funny to me watching a product achieve near perfection, have massive if not almost (practically) ubiquitous adoption and yet continue to jam in features that no one seems to want or need

this would absolutely be a nonstarter for 99% of use cases but personally i think i’d use *markdown files hosted on github* before i used zoom docs lol

i mean that’s pretty clearly what they’re going for i think but knowing how many ms heavy orgs can justify the cost to use slack instead of teams…

maybe they’re betting office x copilot becomes so insufferable docs by zoomā„¢ feel pleasant by comparison

i would actually love to know what the zoom corp theory of world domination is. i have to imagine at this point they’ve reached something approaching

customers = TAM - (microsoft lock-in + google lock-in + hard budget reasons + regulatory reasons)

thank god for this, finally a place to put my notes

why is the zoom client so much bigger now

are people actually using it for anything besides ā€œwebex but goodā€?

I wonder if JD Vance regrets killing Pope Francis now that Pope Chicago is in charge

ask not whom this dis rupts, it rupts thee

fun fact: disruptive is always a relative thing. this is the next disruptive technology! yes, now perhaps ask ā€œto whomst will the disrupting occur?ā€

you do not have to hand it to tucker carlson or marjorie taylor greene or alex jones or megyn kelly. they're all rats who see trump as a sinking ship and they're getting ready to jump in preparation for their next act. you do not have to fall for it.

me when the system is complex, the factors are dynamic, and the state is emergent: šŸ¤“

me when the complex system is affecting my life in dynamic ways and the emergent state is not desirable: šŸ™ƒ

masterful gambit, sir.

it would be the ultimate insult to the current pope and would probably at least contribute some momentum to any free-chicago/illinois-successionist sentiments
