As a European Canadian, Carney vacillates between spiritually European (derogatory) and spiritually European (laudatory).

We can also view this as +18 (Marist) 100 days after an enormous amount of propaganda against him from the Cuomo campaign. In that light it's not bad. Sure Adams had higher approval at the start but he didn't have people say he'd celebrate a second 9/11 during the campaign.
Yeah. TPA's mandate to provide cheap parking is like "let's subsidize making the city worse".
In my view, the Refusal Planning Report from City staff is crucial. Without their professional support, our position would be much more difficult to maintain. With this Refusal Report, we have achieved a significant first step in our efforts regarding this development. However, many obstacles remain. The North York Community Council Agenda is publicly available, and the Staff Report recommends Refusal. Both the applicant and community members can provide deputations, either online or in person, to voice their opinions. This is an important step, but we have a long battle ahead. While it is important that the six North York Community Councillors, including myself, reject the application, that matter will proceed to City Council regardless of the outcome. City Council will be more difficult as the prevailing mood is for as much density as possible, regardless of the consequences.
It's time for a game of "Guess That Density."
Based on Councillor Burnside's anticipation of a "long battle" over "as much density as possible, regardless of the consequences," how many units do you think were proposed on this site in his ward? Clues in 🧵⬇️ before the big reveal later.
Jacob is extremely good on this beat, and I believe instituting Edmonton reforms in the suburbs of the GTA (Toronto probably needs more ambition) would alleviate pressures on the entire country. High prices in Halifax are partly a result of NIMBYism in Markham.
Of course the French are using Linux, they're all about Wine with their apps.
Probably the closest is runoff voting like in France. There's also been some bonusing for the lead party in an effort to promote stability - I think Spain, Italy, and Greece have all had bonusing.
Yeah, I thought they had a work plan to look at those setbacks in the R and RA zones, but then limited the scope to major streets.
EHON ended up shoving all the small apartment work to the major streets, right? There's no hope of 4 story apartments within the neighborhood at the moment? Or am I misreading the work plan.
I want whoever replaces Brad Bradford in Ward 19 to run on this, and then do everything - height limits, DCs, lot coverage, work with the province on single stair, elevator reform, whatever - to achieve it.
Two single-stair 12 plexes, one with bay windows and one with front balconies, amid 90s era vancouver single family homes with pedestrians and cars on the street.
We need to allow our urban 'single family' neighbourhoods to evolve.
Our vision: Accessible, zero emission, bright, social, bike oriented, #singlestair homes - allowed on individual residential lots - everywhere.
@ItsBCJim The bad part of getting older is that you become an NPC, the good part is that being an NPC rocks. Nothing like walking down the street with a thought bubble that's just a sandwich you're looking forward to. Protagonism is best left to teens and the insane
That brussel sprouts salad. Good stuff.
Here in Toronto the Star Trek shows routinely hit 14+ hours, while Heated Rivalry apparently stopped at 10 every day. Cost controls are a management problem!
He was trying to sell Marilyn some art.
Toronto routinely engages financial consultants who say "these housing reforms will not allow developments to perform better than low risk bonds" and then planning recommends those reforms. I think "planners don't acknowledge the realities of the housing market" is a fair characterization.
I don't think that argument is advanced in this article. It says planners act as if the market isn't their problem. That's quite different than pretending it doesn't exist.
NIMBY, annoying: housing for whom?
JMM, wise: planning for whom?
Is that a 12 mini? I know people who don't want to let theirs go. You might be able to get the charging port replaced. Mag safe case is a good option though.
(severely condescending tone) Umm let me explain something to you sweetie: [objectively the wrongest information you've ever heard]
I know there are reasons why, but "we should use less energy" winning West Virginia is mind melting with today's politics.
Yeah you'd never need 8000m2. Maybe (x)m2 in residential zones and 2X that in apartment zones or main streets would be okay, but even then planners are just removing choice. Hopefully the Ford govt listens to city feedback as much as normal, but considering it's NIMBYs I don't have hope.
I could MAYBE be sympathetic to this view if planning hadn't also kicked small apartments in neighbourhoods down the road. Even then it'd be bad, but at least understandable - you're not building a 4plex on an empire lot.
TBH this could be Doug Ford's account.
cover for PS1 game intelligent qube
nice qube. but is it intelligent
The solidarity YIMBY also brings resource workers, construction labour, and process and compliance workers into the tent.
Headquartered in Montreal and having worked as an executive at Air Canada since 2007 - at that point not learning basic French is an active choice.
I'm not sure on platform doors, but on subway costs we're beaten by the UK. Which given their dysfunction and state capacity is embarrassing. Paris did screen doors in 2017 for €2.6m on some old, bespoke stations. The frustrating thing is 2018 Brad campaigned on caring about the nuts and bolts.
The wise man can say "actually both those options are bad". I don't want anyone to spend that kind of money on a project we know can be done for 1/10th the cost!
I need one of the Toronto urbanists to explain to me why platform doors are estimated at 10x the cost of doors in Madrid. At that cost differential, can't we just fly the whole project team and materials out and put them up at the Royal York?
