Hey folks! We have an anonymous release today of a very early Punch-Out prototype! There's a lot to see in it (but not hear); check out the @gamehistoryorg.bsky.social video here!

Happy Holidays! We're back to our old goofs again, this time with some silly random taglines (contributed by admin Hawk).
Today, we bring you a prototype of Mario's Picross for the Game Boy! Dated January 23rd, 1995, this build comes a few months before release and contains different puzzles, a different Super Game Boy title screen, and other graphical differences.

Thanks to @retropals.bsky.social, I am now aware of Home Alone 2: Kevin's Dream, an unreleased Game Boy game which features some kind of nightmarish creature with the heads of Harry and Marv as its final boss.
And now you are too.

The winter FUNraiser continues at 12pm Pacific: We're dumping a new set of mystery ROMs, live on stream! And we need your help to assemble the data!
Based on the labels on these ROMs, there *will* be at least one new unpreserved game in here.
As part of our project to preserve the history of Sega Channel, we have recovered OVER 100 new Sega Channel ROMs, including the legendary lost game Garfield: Caught in the Act - The Lost Levels.

update re: the tcrf Brawl Stars page.
i replied asking for a list of what, specifically, is violating said policy.
STOP THE PRESSES.
The ROM for the unreleased Famicom RPG Splatter World has been released (in a thread on 4chan, of all places). I've tried it myself, and it does seem to be genuine. If it's a fake, it's a damn good one.
Expect (more) coverage on West Mansion soon.

Well, that's weird! I just checked and don't see anything out of the ordinary.
This is the 2017 "remake" of the old homepage, though it leads to actual wiki pages and not the original site's content.

screenshot of the SMB3 Unused Levels subpage, focusing on Unused Level 6; it's the one that's placed on the "START" tile in World 1. it's an ice level with a moving line platform that drifts up and down, like some water stages.
For our birthday... quote this with one of your favorite articles!
Here's one of mine: tcrf.net/Super_Mario_...
Super Mario Bros. 3 just has so much left over in it... I remember playing around in this level in Nesticle 25 years ago.

Time keeps flying... The Cutting Room Floor wiki turned 16 on Saturday!

Have you ever seen a biorhythm chart before? No? Well, imagine a rectangular graph, wider than it is tall, with many vertical lines and a single blue horizontal line running through the middle. Values at the bottom of the graph range from 1 to 31. There's a vertical yellow line going through the 20th. There are three sinusoidal waves weaving through the graph: A red "Body" line, a green "Feeling" line, and a blue "Intellect" line. Text at the top reads "JUL 2022 BIORHYTHM" because that's when I added the article to TCRF. Oh, and there's a birthday below that: "24 AUG 1953". Can you guess the significance of that date? Anyway, that's what's in the picture. Enjoy landing planes at midnight.
If you buy Midnight Landing on Arcade Archives this week, you'll receive a Biorhythm calculator at no extra cost! You can use it to measure your humors or whatever, I don't know. I'm not from the 70s.

We're a bit late to the party, but Data Crystal turned 20 years old last month! That's... old.
DC is the sister wiki to TCRF, focused on reverse engineering, datamining, and documentation; stuff useful for ROM hacks and fan translations.

Picture of the starting area of Strategy X (Konami set). There's a large cyan arrow pointing upwards with the text, "GO AHEAD !!" below the arrow. Hopefully this is pointing at the TCRF link.
Getting into the groove of making articles again. Here's one for Strategy X, which was released on Arcade Archives a few weeks back. Includes version differences with the older Stern set, an unused enemy, and evidence for a possible older Konami set buried in Stern's version.

If you've been sitting on something you've wanted to document, now might be a good time to finally log in and write that article. (Or at least log in.)
screenshot from https://tcrf.net/Deltarune/Chapter_3/Unused_Graphics showing a Ralsei mannequin. "A mannequin designed after Ralsei's mysterious Chapter 1 appearance. This is NOT located in the files of Chapters 1 or 2, and was specifically added for Chapter 3."
Now that Deltarune has been out for a few weeks, you might want to take a look inside the game! A big chunk of chapter 3 got cut, and there's a lot of unused sprites throughout both new chapters.

A larger number of items from Gaelco's archives were given to us recently. Amongst them was a World Rally prototype (on Modular System) from before Carlos Sainz image was covered with a giant helmet. The development story is well known, so this is an important piece of history.
If you use secure, unique passwords, you should not have any problems (consider a password manager). Also, ensure you have a verified e-mail address on your wiki account for password resets, should the need ever arise.
There have been reports of "compromised accounts"; unfortunately, some users used the same password for the wiki as they did on other hacked sites, and those accounts were used for vandalism. Any account that was part of a compromised list had its password reset as a security measure.
Ongoing events: Unfortunately, the website and community have been the target of an ongoing harassment campaign by the website KF. For those reasons, we've temporarily locked down invites and wiki registrations to prevent abuse and vandalism. (continued)
