A multifactor authentication setup screen on an airline's app that won't work internationally or in airplane mode.
Alaska / Hawaiian Airlines is rolling out MFA in their app, which regularly logs you out requiring re-authentication.
At least they are using an offline MFA system that works when traveling off your cell network or are in airplane mode; & not depending on the ability to receive texts, right?
Oh.
PRO TIP if you're filing taxes by mail:
Your tax return may not get postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service the same day it's dropped off.
If you want to make sure your return gets a postmark by the April 15 deadline, go to a post office by Wednesday and ask for one.
This is Sadie. She was finally reunited with her human, astronaut Christina Koch, after her mom’s voyage around the moon took her the furthest any human has ever been from their dog. She can't wait to hear all about the universe. 14/10 (IG: astro_christina)
IPAWS is very powerful, but due to its extremely disruptive nature, it is (appropriately) very conservatively used by alerting authorities. It's designed to be pretty much reserved for life and death situations only. And the precision of targeting isn't that great.
I'd love to hear more about the specifics of the technology used for this.

Last day of the ski season and it's still dumping snow at Eaglecrest. There is still loads snow here for weeks longer, but the plan is to close today, so they are done.

Juneau, Alaska: needy little hotspot
Thanks for asking! We really like hearing feedback, especially ideas for how we could make things better.
Adding special event live streams to our Roku & Apple TV apps is on our wishlist. Things like AFF, Gavel Alaska events, and GLOF livestreams would be nice to have on that platform.
... And unfortunately streaming via social media like YouTube doesn't work for the Alaska Folk Festival because of music licensing/copyright complications.
Unfortunately the KTOO app on Roku & AppleTV doesn't support ad-hoc live streaming.
The live stream of KTOO 360TV is a special case feed that is basically hard-coded into the app. Everything else on those apps is from our archive library.
Unfortunately not.

Why should I continue to subscribe to the @adn.com if they'd rather I just have a machine make stuff up for me instead of supporting local journalism?

Reminder: including alt-text on your images is helpful in many ways! It increases accessibility, can add context/detail, makes search more effective, & can improve your reach (a lot of us won’t re-share images without alt-text). If you set it as required in accessibility settings, you can’t forget!
A sign at the end of a driveway in a large pile of snow reads "Snow for sale".
An image of the entire Earth, with Northern Africa and the North Pole visible at the lower left. It looks like daytime but it is actually illuminated by moonlight. There’s a bright arc along the lower right where the sun is coming through from behind. There’s a bright dot on the lower right (Venus) and a glow (zodiacal light). A few stars can be seen in the dark beyond the Earth.

The whole-Earth-at-night photo from the #Artemis II mission was brighter than many expected. That was mostly due to camera settings; here’s another pic taken just before with diff settings. Digital photography is always subjective—even before processing! (HT @swapnakrishna.com @jasonc0.bsky.social)
Imagine going to the moon and still being expected to answer emails
On April 1, 1974, Porky Bickar of Sitka faked the eruption of Mount Edgecumbe with burning tires, tricking residents & Coast Guard, the greatest Alaska Fools joke in Alaska history. I guess I can't let the day pass completely without a reminder!
Very happy to say the kids are using "that looks like AI" as an insult
I sympathize, truly, but I'd also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the 3-2-1 rule:
3 backups.
2 different formats.

Last fall, James McSweeney and his wife decided to take a leap — they started renting the old theater space with the hopes of reopening it. Before this venture, the couple worked on Alaska Marine Highway System ferries for about a decade.
