Mainstream journalists are abdicating their duty. Cartoonists are the real heroes of the moment.
Congrats to all who enabled this result; if the verdict stands, the floodgates are thrown open for more. Remember, these companies deliberately gambled that they could afford to keep harming their users, and society. So let’s put that belief to the test.
It turns out when you try to serve AI slop on a product people pay for, no one wants it. @jasonkoebler.bsky.social on Disney pulling out of the $1 billion investment with OpenAI.

Good news: not just one open job, but two! Both are postdocs in philosophy of science/ML working with my @technomoralfutures.bsky.social co-Director Dr Emily Sullivan on issues in ML scientific understanding and explanation. Ads for a 3 year post and 2 year post are linked below, apply by 20 April
I'm suing Grammarly over its paid AI feature that presented editing suggestions as if they came from me - and many other writers and journalists - without consent.
State law requires consent before someone's name can be used for commercial purposes.

My presentation for today's "Relations and Technology: How Do We Relate to and Value Technology?" 12:00 at the Department of Informatics University of Oslo 🇳🇴 Really looking forward to working with Henrik Skaug Sætre and his colleagues at @futuritas.eu
Behind the scenes, “Meta was divided on whether protecting kids should take precedence over user growth and engagement. For years, the company only incrementally rolled out restrictive safety features, even as its own staff detailed the risks its platforms posed to children.”
NEW: A hobbyist has created Nearby Glasses, an app that warns you if someone close by is wearing smart glasses. 404 Media spoke to the creator who said he was inspired by our coverage that uncovers how men are wearing Meta's Ray-Bans to covertly film massage parlor workers.

Like it a lot! And still regularly listen to the soundtrack.
There is critique, and then there is critique. Whatever our position let's hold several thoughts in our heads at once now. Yes, current AI has limitations. But it’s restructuring work in ways that are hidden if our only move is banging the “AI is all hype” drum. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....
Would be interesting to compare the results on more recent models - but this problem won’t go away. LLMs are always going to be extrapolating from what has already, and often, been thought, which is why they aren’t windows to the future but anchors to the past.
Leading American companies — including Palantir, Deloitte, and private prison giant GEO Group — raked in over $22B from ICE and CBP contracts last year.
Do not forget who is profiting from cruelty and human suffering.

"Explicitly intertwining the aspirations and fate of SpaceX with Musk’s CSAM generating social media website, his AI bullshit machines, and his right wing political project is horrifying and monopolistic."
According to an organizer, “all signatories are full-time employees, and nearly 30% are Google Cloud workers.”
Good news - we have a new ERC-funded 4-year PhD Studentship at the University of Edinburgh, based in Philosophy and our Centre @technomoralfutures.bsky.social, supervised by Dr Emily Sullivan; the project applies philosophy of science to assessing ML's epistemic & social value. Apply by 16 March!
For those I've been discussing this with earlier - a new version of the AI/AGI and the social contract paper. Feedback very much appreciated. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....
A great thread on AI-driven epistemic contamination
404 Media has published the full user guide for ELITE, the tool Palantir made for ICE to bring up addresses for deportation targets. @evystadium.bsky.social has more.

Man who works in sewer wonders why there's all this shit down here.
ICE murdered Renée Good in broad daylight. Less than 3 weeks later, they killed Alex Pretti, shooting him 10 times. Every day, we watch as people are ripped from their cars, their homes, their lives.
We can't allow ourselves to look away from this cruelty. Abolish ICE.
The NYT reported many hours ago that the government account was provably false (which @bellingcat.com & others had already exposed in video) yet the BBC as of 11am UK time makes no mention of this fact and still centres the government’s false narrative, mentioning only ‘conflicting’ views. Shameful.
At the very least every Democratic officeholder or candidate should be calling for the impeachment and/or arrest of Noem, Homan, and Bovino.
Bare minimum.
Post from Pete Buttigieg that reads: If there was ever a moment for libertarians and conservatives to step up and join the rest of us, we’re in it. Americans have to unite and stop this descent from a freedom-loving nation into the kind of place where masked, militarized government agents are sent to politically noncompliant areas to roam the streets, terrorize civilians, and deploy violence with impunity.
Perhaps it's relevant for American media and companies to know that there are now various apps that allow European citizens to see the origin of products they want to buy, and in case they come from the USA, the app offers European alternatives. It's been discussed in detail on TV evening news... >
