Democrats getting more backlash for attempting redistricting in Virginia in response to completely unprecedented GOP powergrabs than Republicans have gotten for gerrymandering for decades is extremely grim shit ngl.

This conversation is exhausting. Biss has a public record on the issues, you can just go look them up!

Does he think a military budget decreases GDP?

To put it another way, if you fill up a totally-empty gas guzzler with a 16-gallon tank in Chicago, the state sales tax on gas comes out to almost exactly the cost of a single round-trip on a CTA bus. Which of those two options should we be financially incentivizing during a gas price shock?

Explain how this is a gift? This is someone's land they want to use? Why do you get to have a veto of someone else's property?

you should think of modern agriculture like the oil industry: hugely necessary for modern civilization, massively damaging extractive industry, run by and empowering some of the worst people imaginable

Riffing on this: if you assume your neighbor’s house would become an 8-flat the moment it hits the market, you’re implicitly concurring that the housing shortage is real and that your local municipality is actively suppressing the market through restrictive zoning

Since 2016 people have been demanding that Democrats manifest a pan-ideological United Front coalition against Trumpism while refusing to grapple with the fact that vanishingly few conservatives have shown the slightest interest in such a project.

this reminds me, i don't think SCOTUS should be allowed to choose their own clerks. standardize the hiring schedule, put the applications in a pool, blind reads (perhaps by a panel of former clerks) and random assignments.

Not sure who needs to hear it but “higher density” is not actually synonymous with “lower income”

congressional record or bust. I can understand not putting facts about sources and methods in the record even if they’re bad, but an interpretation of the law? Put it in the congressional record!

The centuries-long history of human liberation ends here: threatening to guillotine people until Taco Bell makes the cheesy bean burritos a dollar again.

Maybe a homeowner in West Englewood wants to make extra money and convert attic space into a rental unit.

Or a Gage Park family wants to build some space in the backyard for their aging grandma.

NOPE. Alderman Lopez unilaterally decided to prohibit ADUs in residential zones.

Chart showing data described in the post. Note: All series show ratio of price index to average hourly earnings of production & non-supervisory workers (non-managers). Ratios are indexed to 100 as-of 12/31/2005 and are current through March 2026. All series are seasonally adjusted except for Medical Insurance. Medical Insurance CPI does not reflect premiums, but the retained earnings (profitability) of insurance companies. Other factors driving premiums higher are passed through via other catergories of CPI.

Here are the same four categories as reflected in CPI, *adjusted for wages* i.e. the average $ earned by line, non-manager workers. The fact so many of those charts are cut off in ~2020 and aren't adjusted for wages is another big red flag.

This is literally indistinguishable from Trump's approach. "There are too many Covid-19 deaths; stop reporting them."

If They Who Hold Correct Opinions disagree with the experts, the experts must be wrong and the data needs to be changed.

You might have posted about this elsewhere, but can you talk about your network setup? I haven't dipped into trying to improve performance, but these results are promising.

because living in a society where everything that feels good or cathartic to say out loud is treated as irrebuttably true is how you get fascism and donald trump, and watching liberals and leftists go down this road for the picayune thrill of getting retweets makes me want to go absolutely berserk
