My takeaway from this is "NYC has free street parking?????"
I've been to many much smaller cities where every possible space has a meter installed. Blows my mind that NYC of all places hasn't done that already.

So that didn't take long, huh x)

Walmart "Wallet" section suggesting the user "connect you bank"
It gets worse.
Or better? One of those.
lmao
Walmart-themed corporate art welcoming the user to their Walmart account page with "Hi Name! We're happy your here." using the wrong form of "you're".
Walmart, a trillion dollar company, can't proofread its Account dashboard page.
Think I did the thing where I go way off topic… 😅
The whole point of bringing up my UPS was that the fix SHOULD be as simple as a firmware update!
So I guess I'm jealous that you actually *can* update the firmware on your problematic device, even if it's inconvenient :P
Oh baby nooooo 😱
I got the thing for a mini-PC desktop setup that I don't really leave running if I'm not using it, and power blips here are generally under a few seconds, so…
Don't particularly like having to shut down or hibernate instead of sleep, but I guess my usecase doesn't NEED the hidbatt
In my case I could return that UPS and get another, but precious few manufacturers make LiFePO4 units. Mostly lead acid and a few Li-ion, and I want neither of those.
ikr?
Testing shit before release is overrated I guess. 😡
My ~$200 UPS has some design (or firmware) bug that makes it periodically send "AC offline!" for one second, so good luck using it with a machine you don't leave running all the time. Interferes with sleep.
All support could do was give me 15% back to match the price of their no-USB model. 🤷♂️
Valve was shipping (at least some) Decks with FedEx… in obviously marked boxes, too. Delays *and thefts*!
redd.it/ul2sxv
redd.it/wrqoiz
etc. 😅
Oh wow, the horror stories I heard during the initial waves of Steam Deck shipments… memory unlocked
For anything that actually requires confidentiality though… that's what Tails and its ilk are for. Can't trust Microsoft when it really counts.
In that thread, the link to account.microsoft.com/devices/reco... gave me a place to check.
Despite being signed in to the Microsoft Store, my Windows user account still nags me to sign in every time I open Settings.
There are no keys listed at the link above, so I *probably* escaped 🤷♂️
So the important question, I think, is: Does one bypass this by creating a "local" account in Windows, or will the system surreptitiously upload the key anyway after logging into the Microsoft Store, Office, etc.?
Not that creating a local account is easy any more, but…
Well… Moto ain't promising 8 years of updates either, but they also aren't charging almost a thousand bucks! 😂
😑 😩
The solution is obviously a clamp-on flash reprogrammer 🙃
Whoops.
There's a Moto G Stylus waiting for me at home (I'm out of town) largely because I did not want to deal with /e/OS and the hardware markup. Really really hard to justify what, $900? for the Murena instead of under $300 Moto on sale) 😔
Oof, hopefully they'll stand behind it and help with a replacement?
My frustration with Fairphone has been that the only way to officially get one here (through Murena) is extraordinarily more expensive than even the regular model sold in Europe. Or at least that was the case when I did my research
At the end of the day, I guess it just depends what models you want to run.
I haven't found a FOSS tool that does enough of what Resolve does to switch away, but I'm just happy not to be giving Adobe (trash) or Wondershare (trash-er) any money!
(Plus, the camera included a license. Perpetual too!)
The Resolve community's full of horror stories about AMD compatibility, if you're building a workstation.
For me, there's an "old" mobile-3080 notebook in my arsenal from the pre-NPU era, but what I *actively* use is AMD (desktop) and Intel with Arc iGPU (laptop).
I'm not a pro editor, though…
I do like the local translation models, though I can't tell if they're using my "AI PC" NPU silicon.
Some of the Firefox AI feature rollouts have had me digging around in about:config to hide them (I'm still mostly in the "hate it" camp tbh) but good for them focusing on local!
Yeah, I've given up on the idea that the Oprah approach* to NPUs will lead to any meaningful improvement in tools like DaVinci Resolve. Ya still want a GPU (preferably from team green 🤢), sadly.
The one use case I've seen is live captions for *all* PC audio. 🤷♂️

Well now that "everyone" has "AI PCs" with "NPU" hardware… FOSS can step up and build the same thing, all-local and cross-platform, right?
W10 EOL and Windows 11's strict requirements have to be good for *something* dangit, and I doubt it's gonna be getting people onto Linux. 😩
(Alexa, how much am I trolling rn?) 🙃
This is *almost* the value proposition of Windows Recall, ironically. The only piece your request lacks is "built by an untrustworthy megacorporation" 😂
This entire thread is 😭
What value will you encode into it?
Do you use EAN-13? Codabar? GS1-128? Codablock? Code 49? Datamatrix? QR?
So many choices!
