Things bike helmets will protect you from:
-Head injuries from a slow speed fall
-Light rain
-Being blamed for not wearing a helmet if you get hit by someone driving 5,000 lbs of metal and glass
Things bike helmets won't protect you from:
-Everything else

Beautiful!
Yearly reminder, if you want to teach yourself botany I highly recommend using this free resource!
This is one of the few sciences you can teach yourself and be proficient in the field with enough practice (but a mentor/other scientific papers go a long way as well)

I saved a copy. What a great resource.
Is that snake burrowing in to stay warmer? Or cooler?
To my non tech normies, PSA: when you share a link, everything after the ? is tracking. Those “query parameters” tell companies exactly how you arrived, what app you clicked, which ad or email sent you, sometimes a unique identifier tied to you. You can delete everything after the question mark.
This
Thread.
This is true. It’s very wierd to have to go through a border patrol checkpoint where they have guns and dogs and you are just heading out for groceries. There are cameras pointed at your vehicle and at your face. I hate it.
The federal government – ICE, FBI, and more – is spying on you without a warrant.
This week, Congress will decide whether Kash Patel, Stephen Miller and Trump can keep spying on Americans. If that scares you (it should) this thread is for you.
Thank you. I am concerned about this non constitutional invasion of privacy
The mine plan calls for a 1,000-foot-deep open pit, surrounded by 2 square miles of waste rock dumps and a sulfuric acid processing plant, transforming a pristine area- home to bighorn sheep, golden eagles and hundreds of plant species — into an industrial zone
Republicans want to let a foreign mining company pollute the pristine Boundary Waters and kick the door open to selling out our public lands. And they’ll violate the Congressional Review Act to do it.
I’m a HELL NO.
Thank you. Where is @ronwyden.bsky.social on this?
Oh thank you. I didn’t read the article (:
Every dollar invested in the IRS pays back in detections of tax fraud. And the ones doing the most fraud are the extremely wealthy.
I am so curious about where they all go to forage for pollen and nectar. What do they pollinate in the few weeks when they are active.
I meet my neighbors, enjoy the gardens and birds, smell the flowers, it’s so easy to stop and check something out. I can take those neighborhood paths through the woods.
Cycling together and chatting is one of the joys of biking.
Biking is joy!
I collected some so I may be able to put a name to them. This is only the second time in 11 years that I’ve seen such aggregations.
A bee head sticking out of her nest in the ground.
Tubes of soil built by ground nesting bees above their nests.
A long shot of the side of a gravel road showing how extensive the ground nesting bees were.
An aggregation of some kind of ground nesting bees. There were several areas along this road. This patch was 100 feet long by 5 feet wide. I estimate 10,000 nests.
A "wartime" poster that says: "Using Generative AI? You're Prompting with Hitler! GenAI is a Fascist Project! Try using your brain instead! Don't surrender your creativity to the Tech Billionaires' control!"
I missed this from @phineas.bsky.social when it originally came out but it sure feels relevant at the moment.
Also, you can buy this as a print from the artist here:

And Isopods, which store nitrogenous waste in the exoskeleton which gets discarded when they molt.
I am dreading fire season this year.
Oooh I have had this discussion with homeowners. Streets belong to everybody.
The almost unimaginable wealth of billionaires. It’s so harmful, allowing so much money and influence to be in the hands of so few.
I need everyone to understand this is eugenics in action—not just “quackery.” Much like the “anti vax” movement as a whole.
