Kémy Adé was shocked by the immigration refusal letter she received.
In rejecting her permanent residence application, the Immigration Department cited her current job duties, which included wiring and assembling control circuits, building control and robot panels, programming and troubleshooting. The department said these duties didn’t match the Canadian work experience she claimed.
Well, no, they didn’t. Adé is a post-doctoral research fellow and guest teacher at McMaster University — and those skills are not part of her repertoire. Nor are they what she submitted in her immigration application a year ago.
“I saw this language about this job description that has nothing to do with me,” said the health scientist from France, who has a PhD from Sorbonne University in the immunology of aging. “I was disoriented how this could happen.”
But a disclaimer at the bottom of the refusal letter might provide a hint.
It’s believed to be the first time that the department explicitly referred to the use of generative AI to support application processing in immigration refusals. The disclaimer also noted that all generated content was verified by an officer and that generative AI was not used to make or recommend a decision.
Today in AI:
Canada rejected the PR application of a McMaster postdoc from the Sorbonne who works in the immunology of aging because the generative AI being used to process applications (😱) entirely hallucinated her credentials.
Everyone involved should be fired.

hello and welcome to the political genius exam. here is question one. which is a more compelling message:
- the president is sending armies to occupy cities and kidnap and kill people and your town could be next
- a meal at the cheesecake factory that previously cost $100 now costs $104.9

my takeaways reading about a bunch of horrific shit in history is that the things you want are:
-to have hiding spaces
-to not let the state disarm you (small arms genuinely matter even when artillery exists)
-to maintain access the means of communication
-to build diplomatic ties with outsiders

Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) has announced a restructuring of its executive leadership team and the intention to sell multiple properties, as the university tries to address a shortfall of approximately $25 million. The changes are just two of several that are expected in the year ahead, as the university also contends with an upcoming tuition-fee freeze.
In late January, MUN announced it will begin selling multiple properties in St. John’s that are “not closely aligned with its academic mission,” as well as its Harlow Campus in the United Kingdom. The announcement came just two weeks after the university announced executive restructuring, which saw it reduce the number of vice-presidents from seven to three.
PSA: it is in fact possible for universities to address financial challenges by slashing (incredibly expensive and largely useless) admin positions.
Memorial University just downsized VPs from 7 to 3.
Yes we can!

So hey, while Frey is doing soundbytes and spouting off, Sheriff Dawanna Witt and Frey's Police Chief Brian O'Hara's people were at HCMC last night protecting ICE agents, refusing to trespass them from the ER waiting room there despite requests from the hospital, and elected officials.

it is incredibly grim to have witnessed the consolidation in real time of a narrative erasing a queer person's queerness because the statement of an ex-family member was not interrogated by journalists before it blew up the internet
it can't just be "who can get a quote the fastest, from whoever"

Idiotic right-wing propoganda: "London - before everything, it was one of the most beautiful, clean and safest places in Britain." In the AI image, a character in the foreground has his feet on the wrong way, facing backwards.
London in the good old days - before everyone's feet pointed forwards.

A wrong Grok post making up a white guy who stopped the Australian mass shooting.
BBC
'Hero' who wrestled gun from Bondi shooter named as Ahmed al Ahmed
Emily Atkinson

A "hero" bystander who was filmed wrestling a gun from one of the Bondi Beach attackers has been named as 43-year-old Ahmed al Ahmed.
Video verified by the BBC showed Mr Ahmed run at the gunman and seize his weapon, before turning the gun round on him, forcing his retreat.
Mr Ahmed, a fruit shop owner and father of two, remains in hospital, where he has undergone surgery for bullet wounds to his arm and hand, his family told 7News Australia.
This is fucking grim. Somebody invented a white guy, an "IT professional" named Edward Crabtree, who stopped the Bondi shooting and spread it all over the internet, which was picked up by AI agents and slop aggregation sites.
The real hero is a fruit stand owner named Ahmed el Ahmed.

Every single convention organizer, publisher, art director, project manager, etc. who's even once entertained the thought of using genAI imagery or LLM generated text at any stage should be paying *full* attention to how popular DragonCon is becoming for enforcing their "no genAI" policies.

The BBC News website has pages & pages of coverage related to farmers protesting inheritance tax, including events where only a few hundred turn out.
In London yesterday 100,000 people marched for trans rights, and nothing.
Imagine if it was 100,000 anti immigrant activists, they'd cover that.

New album out today: transgender street legend the acab anthology assigned compilation at birth
back when i made Transgender Street Legend Vol. one, i never imagined it making the impact it did, & somehow still does. as i made volumes two & three, i only felt more grateful despite it all. to be able to hear my art evolving across these three ep's was always affirming to me in my intentions to keep on growing, as both an artist & just as a person. in that sense, my music's a transition timeline; both things are emblematic of the intentional changes that keep me alive.
I always intended to release an anthology of the series as a victory lap of sorts. it took awhile, but we finally did it. if you helped me at all in making & finishing this series, thank you. & to those who keep listening, thank you for your support, acknowledgment & patience. I'm eternally grateful.
With love,
/@/

Living in the new American fascism.
After Patron blocked my latest review, I tried to write about censorship. Then I tried to write about aesthetics and the sexual politics of fiction.
What I ended up capturing was the violent silence of the moment - the grief and helpless fury of living in a world that marches on toward genocide ⬇️
