Fortress America Is Now Our Main Climate Policy The US spends trillions not to prevent climate catastrophe but to crack down on climate refugees and prepare for climate conflicts.

While the Trump admin is scrubbing official mentions of climate change, its wars abroad and ICE occupations at home are, in fact, climate policies: They’re showcasing how the US state is orienting itself toward displacement, hardship, and the very idea of global cooperation toward a shared end.

Statement from the National Political Committee. 1/2. Bovino’s Out, But We’re Still In. Abolish ICE! DSA once again expresses our deepest solidarity with the people of Minnesota, many of whom may be breathing a sigh of relief that CBP Commander-at-Large Greg Bovino has been removed from his post. Bovino’s direct references to Nazi imagery, meant to strike fear into the hearts of working people and embolden the right, instead drove the masses of Minneapolis-St. Paul into the streets, shutting down the economy of two major American cities for an entire day. 1/2. #OtD 17 Jan 1915 @IWW organiser Lucy Parsons led a march against hunger and unemployment in Chicago. It was during this protest that famous union hymn "Solidarity Forever" was completed by Ralph Chaplin. More IWW music in this great book: shop.workingclasshistory.com/collections/...

New poll from Navigator also with an incredible result; the largest drop in support for ICE since June was actually among *Republicans*, 25% of which now say they have an unfavorable opinion of the agency.

MONEY

David Dayen @ddayen 21h

Are we cool with a Democratic presidential frontrunner raising money from billionaires to oppose a billionaire wealth tax in advance of a 2028 campaign where he'll need a lot of money, likely from billionaires?

The measure faces opposition from Silicon Valley investors and others, including Gov. Gavin Newsom. At The New York Times DealBook conference this month, Mr. Newsom said a wealth tax was not pragmatic. The Democrat, who has been close with people like Mr. Page, is raising money for a committee to oppose the measure. The committee received a $100,000 donation from the venture capitalist Ron Conway in November, according to state campaign finance records.

Sortition Can Help Cure What Ails Our Democracy Americans are frustrated with our increasingly oligarchic political system. Selecting an assortment of lawmaking deliberative bodies through random lotteries could help fix it, by empowering ordinary people rather than unaccountable politicians.

Coalition Calls on DNC Members to Bring Gaza Resolution 18 to the Floor
Minneapolis, Minnesota - Today, the Democratic National Committee's (DNC)
Resolutions Committee killed Resolution 18: A Resolution in support of Palestinian lives. Resolution 18, introduced by DNC member Allison Minnerly, seeks to invest American dollars in America by suspending U.S. military aid to Israel and conditioning weapons transfers on compliance with U.S. and international law.
After Resolution 18 was defeated, DNC Chair Ken Martin pulled his Resolution 3, which was in discordance with the Democratic base, expressing a desire to hear voices in support of Palestinian lives.
A coalition of DNC members and grassroots organizations are asking to bring Resolution 18 to the full DNC floor with a clear message: we will continue to fight for the will of the voters. While Resolution 18 failed in committee, party rules allow members to bring it to the full DNC and to require a recorded roll-call vote if at least 25% of members present support the request.
"The DNC membership has the power to stand up and let the public see where Democrats really stand," said Allison Minnerly, a 26-year-old DNC Member from Florida. "A roll-call vote is the minimum standard of transparency in a democracy."
The campaign calls on every DNC member to:
• Publicly pledge to support a roll-call vote on Resolution 18 from the floor;
• Reject voice votes that hide accountability;
• Stand with Democratic voters, the majority of whom oppose blank-check military aid toward an ongoing genocide.
RootsAction: "We continue to strongly support 'A Resolution on Gaza,' and we are pleased to be part of the coalition that will bring it to the DNC floor. Transparency and accountability are central to democracy. Across the United States, young Democrats and others have worked tirelessly to offer the party the opportunity to turn away from its complicity with Israel's continuous mass killing of civil…

Aftab Siddiqui, American Muslim Democratic Caucus National: "Resolution 18 represents exactly the kind of principled politics that wins elections. While Democrats lost ground in 2024 by wavering on core values, New York City's mayoral candidate, Zohran Mamdani, proved that moral courage on Gaza builds winning coalitions. The DNC must learn this lesson."
Nick Boyle, Illinois, DNC member: "What we are seeing with the genocide in Gaza is the world's largest ongoing mass disabling event. The fact that Gaza has more children amputees than anywhere else in the world, caused by bombs sent by the United States, should abhor everyone. We can't hold our breath waiting for Netanyahu to do the right thing. For disabled people living in Gaza and Palestine, the DNC must call for an immediate arms embargo and demand an end to Palestinian suffering and the genocide in Gaza."
Zayed Kadir, New York, Chair of the High School Democrats: "Resolution 18 represents the voices of not only young Democrats but all Democrats who believe that Palestinian lives matter too. It's time for the DNC to stand on principle and stop shying away from the conversation, the moment is now."
Nadia Ahmad, Florida: "The Democratic Party cannot claim to stand for justice and human rights while blocking a resolution that calls for an arms embargo and humanitarian aid to Gaza. This is about whether our party has the moral courage to listen to its members and the American people. We are demanding a roll-call vote so that every DNC member is accountable for where they stand in this historic moment."
Immediate Call to Action
1. Tell the DNC that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza demands urgent action.
Send a letter now urging members to bring Resolution 18 back to the floor and vote for it tomorrow: https://bit.ly/DNCGazaRollCall
2. Contact your state elected DNC Members demanding that they support

NEW: A group of DNC members are pushing to bring Resolution 18 to a full DNC vote.

The DNC Resolutions Committee killed it earlier today.
It calls for a ceasefire, arms embargo to Israel, and recognition of Palestine.

Just 8% of Democrats approve of Israel's military action in Gaza.
