Been a hot minute since I busted out Blender and thought about firing up my printer, especially since I printed all the arms and backpacks for my vintage projects. But hey, Orks need to fly...

I'm so annoyed at how boring the new 40k Ork kits are that I'm hate buying the old boyz kits before they are gone. I know that isn't exactly a statement, I know it's still giving them money, but god dammit the new Orks are such a mundane meh for my tastes. Grumpy, unreasonable old man mode ends.
Everything you described about bases as a fingerprint resonates with me and my constant cataloguing of old miniatures and where they have been used.
Do you also feel like all the pro AI folks are waiting for a gotcha moment? As though somehow at some point I will be so astounded by their machine slop that all ethical and moral concerns will vanish in an instant?
And despite all the ground I've gained in edge highlighting and colour placement, I am still utterly miserable at faces. Such is how it is.

Black Legion element complete, giving me a Chaos Lord in the form of Abaddon the Despoiler and his bodyguard to lead my Black Crusade. On to the marked legions next (and waiting on tools for better photography) #oldhammer #warhammer40k #miniaturewargaming
It definitely did not predate the RPG, but it is still worth checking out this game. It is very good.
Oh damn thats a cool kit! Who made it?
Oh yeah, Raptors, Obliterators, and Noise Marines all have this shared blocking nature in that period, they feel weirdly positioned next to the basic CSM. The multipart berzerkers also kind of have it, they sit between the RT style and the black codex 2003 style.
I used both set and sol. They were very fragile, but ended but flattening quite well with care. The lack of saturation is really noticeable, but I didn't want to touch them up because there was something neat about that.

Terminator trim is hell, lightning is love - really fun to get these done, and good learning now before moving into painting Abaddon and his bodyguard next. 4 Legions down, 5 to go. #oldhammer #warhammer40k #miniaturewargaming
Yessir
I don't think miniature wargaming and model painting is really the space to be calling folks Luddites when they disapprove of your AI plagiarism and auto-colouring of classic art works. You're in the wrong fucking space buddy, we paint dolls with little brushes.
Working in tech in 2026 is more soul crushing and depressing than I ever could have imagined.
The obnoxious shit like that drives me crazy and only compounds my loathing for business celebration and achievement.
Thanks mate, I appreciate it a bunch. I'm glad people enjoy these models so much, they're a ton of fun.

Iron Warriors contingent complete. It was nice to have a relatively easy paint scheme for once, aside from the damn stripes. 30 year old decals are also always flawed in application, but that's OK, they're neat either way. Nights Lords next? Lightning... #oldhammer #warhammer40k #miniaturewargaming
Thank you, it's a curse as you know.
As I'm building up a pool of 4th/5th edition Empire stuff, I have a hankering to rebuild a ton of 5th ed Bretonnia, which I don't need because I already have a large 6th edition Bretonnian army and help me please I have issues.
Can't blame you, Necromunda in any form is top tier, I have a bunch of that waiting for me as well.
They are really fun models, for sure. The asymmetry in all the details makes them very interesting to work on.
Like an absolutely dumbass I forgot to add the decals first. That has been corrected now.
Totally unintentional, there is no plan, it's for the kids, are you against saving kids? Are you a monster? Why do you hate security? Why are you a terrorist?

Word Bearers Chaos Space Marine Dreadnought for 2nd Edition Warhammer 40k
My Word Bearers contingent for my 2nd edition Black Crusade. Two things noted - there are some weird strands I can't see with my naked eye, and I need to learn why I can't take decent pictures after following all advice short of "buy a DSLR" #warhammer40k #oldhammer #miniaturewargaming
Disagreement about what is and is not a good miniature or kit is a time honoured grognard tradition, but always with a good pint together in mind at the end of it.
I very much put these alongside the later multi-part Chaos Warriors and to a lesser extent RTB01? I think they're important kits, but they aren't nice, the charm is more around your attachment to them. Bits of it are cool, but the metals of the time were still a massive improvement.
A screenshot from the Codex: Chaos from 2nd edition warhammer 40k of the Plaguebearer stat line
I never really looked at Daemons in the 90s, so this stat line was very confusing to me and contradictory to everything I am used to Nurgle being.
Hold up Desolator in one hand, hold up RT Librarian in the other, yes I see what they mean, yes.

First 2e Chaos unit done, a Veteran Alpha Legion squad protecting a Sorcerer. Next up probably the Word Bearers, or maybe some WHFB work. Posed as ever on the wonderful terrain work of @doctorspork.bsky.social #oldhammer #miniaturewargaming #warhammer40k
