31 years ago today, Zebra Books released The Possession, my Civil War ghost novel. It wasn’t as popular as Fear or Blood Kin, but every author should write a book about vengeful poltergeists at least once in their career. This one was mine. 👻

A huge thanks to @jameslawsonmoore.bsky.social for the gift of a 1968 copy of True Grit for my 65th birthday next week. It’s very much appreciated and treasured, my friend! 🤠

This week, an editing job and a contract to script a horror comic dropped into my lap like manna from heaven. It just goes to show that no matter how old and seasoned you are, or how jaded and complacent you may become in your writing career, the potential for new things is always on the horizon.

Amen to that, brother! Before Grady's book, I was a mostly forgotten, ashamed-to-admit-it Zebra Horror hack. Paperbacks From Hell brought renewed respectability and visibility to a lot of mass market paperback authors and their work from the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, Ol' Ron included.

I'm only a fourth of the way into the writing of the sequel of FEAR, but thanks to @lynnehansenart.bsky.social, it's already got the absolutely best cover I could have hoped for. This winter is devoted to finishing FEAR ETERNAL and, if all goes well, I intend to have it in print by spring of 2024.

Thank you, @robertottone.bsky.social. When you read for a blurb, you always hope that it’s going to entertain you in a big way. But when it inspires you in a bigger way and pushes you through a rough patch with your own writing… well, that’s a bonus. No… a true treasure. Damn, what a tale!

I recall getting that message “My wife and her sister have written a story. Would you mind taking a look?” I did and it only got better and better after that. The Sisters are damn good storytellers who only top themselves with each new tale. Plus, for me, they’re family. They’re my literary cousins.

Just finished a project with two kick-ass authors that most folks in the horror community love and respect. It was downright inspiring for this ol' pulp writer, working with storytellers of their caliber. I still have a writer's buzz from the experience. Planning on hanging onto it as long as I can.
