Thank you so much Ali!
Finally defended my Ph.D. and completed this long journey! Huge thanks to my great advisors
@willrhobbs.bsky.social @informor.bsky.social and @alicirone.bsky.social
and all people who supported me through these five years!
(Now I can confidently wear this shirt.)
Unfortunately I'm not in Japan so I will present this work (in collaboration with @willrhobbs.bsky.social) remotely tonight/tomorrow morning in Japan. It is based on another interesting work about Weibo's surprisingly transparent community-driven digital jury system: osf.io/preprints/so...
An excellent film
so...it seems R1 is different from previous deepseek models...
The new acting Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy — State’s top public diplomacy official:
1) not only denies the Uyghur genocide but appears to applaud it
2) says the US should sell out Taiwan to China for concessions in Antarctica (???)
Career trajectory:
1. Talking int'l norms to help 🀄 build a compliant legal system.
2. Sharing US experiences, so 🀄 understands problems and successes.
3. Fostering mutual awareness to avoid conflicts based on misunderstanding.
4. Sharing 🀄 experience to discourage US authoritarian drift,
This is a sad time for political scientists, and even much sadder for Chinese political scientists who wish to pursue a liberal democracy
Democracy sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiides so quickly
I'm not surprised, but still grieved
Community Notes needs Journalism. Here's some scientific evidence for it @andyzhao.bsky.social and I provided last year in the Journal of Online Trust & Safety where we looked at the dynamics of Cofacts, the Taiwanese crowdsourced fact-checked community:

sorry, but you @ the wrong person...
So, blatant racism in an AI ethics invited talk on #NeurIPS from an MIT professor. Guess she knows this is inappropriate, otherwise she wouldn’t even have a “Note”. Then she still chooses to leave the slide as it is and present it in this way.
1. The name Bluesky was originally a placeholder for the project started by Twitter to build an open social protocol.
Purely by coincidence, my mother gave me the name Lantian, which translates to "blue sky."
So...Bluesky was not named by Lantian, but still happened to have the same name as the CEO?
