I'm spending my time in the hairdresser's chair this morning firing off emails to all 7 of my MSPs who voted against this. Unbelievably disappointing and with such poor reasoning - the slippery slope argument is a cheap cop out.

Indeed. On the media point, I've been stunned at the number of times I've read some variation on the words 'tricky for Starmer as his focus on the cost of living has been overshadowed by Trump's Venezuela raid'. I mean, yeah, sort of. But in another sense, the wood is being missed for the trees.
I just don't understand Labour's complete failure to recognise that these spineless, avoidant "politician's responses" are a huge factor in driving people towards right-wing populism. People are crying out for authenticity and strength and instead they keep pumping out this milquetoast nothingness.
This is so funny.
"I'm afraid the economy now runs primarily on me and my idiot threads throwing more and more money at the Create the Torment Nexus project. We can't afford to go backwards. Blood for the Blood God. Skulls for the Skull Throne."
I considered writing a long carefully constructed argument laying out the harms and limitations of AI, but instead I wrote about being a hater. Only humans can be haters.
2015 Shabana Mahmood really needs to have a word with 2025 Shabana Mahmood
This reminds me of that famous Neil Postman blurb about the difference between Orwell and Huxley and how Huxley thought our own undoing would be a love of technologies that don't require us to think. We're being actively encouraged not to read or think for ourselves and everyone is like GREAT 👍
We need a bigger tent, that’s why we must betray and expel the following types of people:
As an immigrant with ILR who volunteers voluntarily (the clue is in the word), from Brownies to animal shelters, being forced to have done so would have made me feel very separate to and disconnected from my community. Singling out immigrants for extra unpaid labour will only breed resentment.
The absolute gall to expect immigrants to work 12 hour shifts propping up the NHS and then also have to find time to perform unpaid labour that their British colleagues don't have to, all just to appease a bunch of racist flag waving assholes who have never given anything back to their communities.
NEW: The Pentagon told journalists it will require them to pledge they won’t gather any information — even unclassified — that hasn’t been expressly authorized for release, and will revoke the press credentials of those who do not obey. @washingtonpost.com
Racist views were something agreed to be shameful. For the people pushing racist views today, the reluctance to call them out is a tremendous boon. Even as social media brings them together, it demonstrates to them that they can be bolder without consequence. That’s why they’re now more explicit /4
Some personal news:
I've been fired from the Washington Post in the aftermath of the Charlie Kirk shooting.
Thread incoming.

Another thing I love about the present moment - Musk regularly goes 'don't worry, we are going to change THAT' whenever Grok produces an answer that doesn't align with his priors, yet the British Labour government thinks that they are going to be able to land an argument on there in 2029.
It's been more & more dismaying seeing journalists and commentators parrot the "legitimate concerns" line that the Starmer government has themselves adopted. The economic situation hasn't suddenly deteriorated over this year, however, the media normalisation has massively snowballed.
Which work? Calling for gay people to be stoned to death? Blaming airplane crashes on black pilots? Anti-vax bullshit? Election denialism? Pushing Great Replacement Theory?
Kirk’s murder is awful and ominous for this country. But no, we don’t need to honor him or “continue his work.”
Calling the female journalist "slag" is really the cherry on top of the "protect women and girls" cake.
This government is really excelling at finding novel ways to be tepid.
Hey @bestforbritain.org just FYI the 'your name' placeholder in that iframe is not editable. I checked out the html and the <span> it's in is set to content editable="false" so that needs editing so people can enter their names!
You can watch this Green Beret describe this experience in his own words to @vanhollen.senate.gov, and for us, and I cried. I’m not sure how you could watch this veteran tell this child’s story and not feel all of the emotions at once.
I had the same thought so did the math based on chatGPT estimating that an elite competitive eater with a 15 year long career will eat roughly 11,000 hot dogs.
(11,000*30) = 330,000 mins
330,000/1,400 = 235 days
Seems worth it, honestly
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If a podcast doesn't do it for you, it's so easy to just unsubscribe & move on. The fact that he needed you to witness his unhappiness screams lonely bloke with no friends desperate to feel seen. Which is obviously not your emotional baggage to have to carry 🚮 Bye, Felicia!
The Great Gatsby. It was and still is some of the most beautiful prose I'd ever read and it also clearly demonstrates what a con the American Dream is; how elites are forever playing by completely different rules. It means so much to me I even got a tattoo inspired by it 🤓
To be clear, this is what actual antisemitism looks like.
Every time I visit Paris I squeeze in a trip to one of the locations mentioned in A Moveable Feast; definitely recommend revisiting as a tourism guide!

Netanyahu has spent the better part of two decades trying to strong arm the United States into an unprovoked war against Iran and finally found a president stupid enough to do it for him. Unbelievable.
Sex pest solidarity.
