What are some of the greatest contributions of SRTM?

I'm looking for real world application, uses cases.

Best lead so far is a 2011 "SRTM DEM and its application advances" that goes over some research papers + shows it was used in some natural disaster mapping

I agree with a lot of your points, and many of them are why I didn’t want to continue in academia in the first place
