Night view of an observatory at dusk with telescope domes in silhouette, while the Milky Way stretches across the sky above.
Congratulations, Babak Tafreshi, for being named National Geographic Explorer at Large! 👏

The brief version of my previous argument: by insisting that cosmic expansion is not „motion through space,“ we are cutting ourselves off from the usual concepts of acceleration and force, which are derived from describing motion in space. But for questions like „if the cosmos expands, do 1/ 🔭🧪🎢⚛️

A complex nebula is shown that is mostly blue and red on the left half and mostly brown on the right. Several bright stars are visible, and many filaments run through, in particular on brown dust filamnents on the image right. Please see the explanation for more detailed information.

A disc-shaped galaxy. It glows brightly at the centre and shines a faint white light all around it. The disc is made up of tightly-packed rings of dust, some darker and some lighter. Wide, long lanes of dark reddish dust cross the galaxy in front of its edge, blocking out some of its light; the long strands twist and break apart at each side. A couple of nearby stars and distant galaxies are also visible on the black background.
Hubble has captured the sharpest image yet of the lenticular galaxy NGC 7722 and its long, winding dust lanes!

In a starfield glowing red, several features stand out. On the right is a diffuse white band, and on the upper right is some dark dust. Most prominently, though, are two blue structures in the center, one of which has a dark band running across near the middle. Please see the explanation for more detailed information.

A galaxy is shown that has a lot of blue and red dots in it. The galaxy is an long elliptical blob across the middle and not a classic spiral. Please see the explanation for more detailed information.

M33 in the constellation Triangulum. With the HII region NGC604 visible in the outer regions of the upper spiral arm. Imaged with my SW 130/650mm Newton and Canon EOS 750d on a SW HEQ5 Pro mount.
Image of M33 in the constellation Triangulum from ~August last year. It is always fascinating what an old DSLR can achieve with a bit of patience.
Of course a modern dedicated camera like a Asi 2600 is more efficient for #Astrophotography but at 5 to 6 times the price? Maybe a 2 GOTO mount instead?

Really clear night. Got much better images of Orion nebula and Andromeda galaxy, M31, than posted last time. And took longer exposures. Enjoy

Going through my collection of decent astro images over the past 18 months, thinking of having a few prints done. For every success there have been 3 failures I would think, mostly down to satellites leaving trails. Bad weather has been another major factor. Patience is a virtue in this game 😊🔭
