And while I don't use shot blockers, I work with the pain threshold the other way by numbing the injection site with ice before I wipe it with alcohol. I get the site so numb that I don't feel any pain when the injection happens

What I HAVE done for years is draw up the syringes before the injections, for both myself and for my wife. Doing the draw for a long time helped me to get more comfortable around needles in general, even though I still couldn't watch the injection happen

I haven't actually used these personally, but the friend sang its praises. It works by raising your pain threshold around the injection site

Shot blockers, a plastic pad with a large number of soft, rounded barbs on the bottom

So, something that a diabetic friend of mine recommended was shot blockers. They surround the injection site with a lot of little pokeys so that the sensation of the injection is minimized. I flagged this as graphic out of an abundance of caution, but there are no needles in the pic

I'd be happy to share what's helped me, but only if you want. It'd feel weird giving unsolicited advice

I get you on the needle phobia. I didn't switch to injections until I lived with my wife, and for *years* she did my shot for me. It's only been in the past few months I've found the strength to push past it and start doing my own shot, and that's only with a set of tricks to make it easier
