“There is something particularly menacing about being attacked by faceless people. The mask not only terrorizes the victim of the attack, but it also uniquely empowers the perpetrator. We see this in many of the videos as those who claim to be federal officers, speak crudely and cruelly, and behave with unspeakable brutality against unarmed laborers and their families. The mask prevents their victims from identifying the “officers.” But perhaps the anonymity offered by the mask also encourages these agents to obscure their own humanity from each other and from themselves.

This country has a unique history with the particular terror of masked attackers. The Ku Klux Klan, the violent white supremacist organization terrorized Black people in the American South in the first years after the end of the Civil War and through much of the 20th century. So rampant was Klan violence in the years immediately after the Civil War, that it threatened to derail the promise of the 14th Amendment, which was ratified in 1868 and was designed to ensure that Black people would equal citizens in post-Civil War America.

In the first decade after the end of the Civil War, the violence of the Klan grew to such an alarming level that President Grant encouraged Congress to address the growing problem by passing a statute that would give federal authorities the ability to prosecute those interfering with the constitutional rights of Black people.[iii]”

Military style ICE raids in our communities. David Huerta was beaten and dragged away.

Because he saw them and stood up for justice. Because he’s not afraid.

Neither are we.

On MONDAY let's #FreeDavidHuerta, #FreeThemAll

Trump’s move is a sign of weakness and I wish our governor was prepared to meet it with greater strength.

If Abrego Garcia committed a crime, he should be charged and tried. I wondered reading this headline why they didn't just do this in the first place, and then read the article to discover that they only began the investigation in April, after he was deported.

Trump administration working on plan to move 1 million Palestinians to Libya Details are murky and no final agreement has been reached, but the plan is under serious enough consideration that the administration has discussed it with Libyan leadership.

This is a nightmare but IMO there is a way out of this if Dems chose to fight the righteous fight around.

They just want to disappear the innocent father of a 5 year old to a gulag in another country. This is a fight if Dems go all in on - they can win. But, it needs to start now. Today.

Megan Thee Stallion TURNS UP at Coachella With Ciara, Victoria Monet, and Queen Latifah YouTube video by J Nolan

This is why I will always tap in to @realjnolan.bsky.social - he is one of the few men in hip hop media that shows love to all the women in hip hop. Very happy to be an Insider.

Hip hop commenters doing break downs of that man’s album but not covering Meg at Coachella. Those channels are not for me and they have been unfollowed.

Extracting Police - Stephanie Guirand & Spencer Piston - Inquest Violent policing is not a bug of capitalist societies but a feature. To end our dependence on it, we must first understand its connection to exploitation.

“Police make exploitation possible, and the relationship is reciprocal: police thrive when resources are extracted from marginalized populations.” —Stephanie Guirand & Spencer Piston in the latest from Inquest.

What Are the Ethics of Strapping VR Headsets on Inmates in Solitary Confinement? Stuck in cramped cells for days and weeks at a time, incarcerated people are being whisked away to beautiful worlds through the magic of VR.

Solitary confinement breaks international law. The humanitarian crisis spans detention centers across the US.

Instead of eradicating the archaic practice, prison profiteers have found a new financial opportunity:

Post-modern dystopian solitary confinement — using virtual reality.
