Surprised to hear @timharford.ft.com citing the widely refuted 'quarter of a million per fish' on Hinkley C. Will you do as you commend your fellow R4 presenters for and set the record straight on this incorrect and politically motivated claim?
'New Year Riverlutions' with the River Sid Catchment Group. We've been working in partnership over the last couple of years to try to address the many barriers, including the beast of School Weir. Nice to see local residents engaged and supportive of proposed solutions.
Is that woody debris large enough for you? Some really interesting habitat formation on the river Sid, with wet woodland, moving and ephemeral channels all forming with benign neglect over the last ~50 years. Beaver paradise when they hop over from the neighbouring Otter catchment!
The Salmon Run is back! ๐ ๐

Great day afloat with @danosmond.bsky.social on Wimbleball. Always a pleasure to hang out with Dan and we had plenty of action on a very low lake with some top quality trout to take home to be cold smoked.
The captain proving worthy of its name once again! Always a pleasure, Jon.
Modern and historic pressures on Dartmoor: sheep grazing in the treeless upper East Dart, atop mine streaming tailings. Our perspective of 'natural' and 'wild' is set by our present baselines but can miss long-term changes that have eroded ecology.
October is flying by, catching up now the rivers season has closed. Starting to look through data from this year's survey season, challenging for us and the fish with the hot dry summer.
Day two of the @ifmfish.bsky.social conference in Bristol, nice to hear colleague Hannah presenting the big picture of what we're up to on the Teign.
Quite a day out: 43 miles running up the Exe to celebrate and connect with the story of Atlantic Salmon in this year's Salmon Run. A big thanks to all involved in organising and supporting the event and to everyone who donated towards WRT's work to support salmon restoration in the Exe.
I've just sponsored @danosmond.bsky.social on @justgiving.bsky.social
Dan is running the Salmon Run next Saturday. This amazing event raises awareness of Atlantic Salmon and the threats they face, and Dan is also fundraising for Westcountry Rivers Trust

Hey, thanks for the support Sarah and for your work on this great event!
Back to visit some of our fisheries habitat sites on the Exe, funded by NE Species Recovery. Great work delivered by Dartforest, increasing daylight penetration in a SSSI on Danes Brook. Alongside the benefits for fish, nice to see habitat creation for terrestrial species in the riparian corridor.
Save the date! Run wild with the Salmon 20 September on the Exe linking communities for love of our river #salmonrun more info on how to take part in relay, ultra and 5km with our partners ParkRun coming soon!
Full circle, having previously worked on development of eDNA assays for migratory fish, now great to see molecular ecology tools becoming a standard part of practical management.
Please do, along with this most importantly (which I forgot) or our wonderful volunteer team!
Trees in the ground on the Barle yesterday to restore and protect this valuable spawning site for Exe salmon. Working with @naturalengland.bsky.social and @exmoornp.bsky.social, great to see enthusiastic volunteers out to put theory into action. One of the best days yet for Westcountry Rivers Trust.
