For me, academic life does not get much better than this: some days in an ECPR workshop with 25 bright and kind scholars who share a research interest. I am grateful for all the insights I gained about referendums and the great people that I met, brought together by Alice el-Wakil and Daniel Kübler.

Ik ben heel benieuwd wat zo’n muziekfanaat van die laatste vindt. Het album is trouwens prachtig uitgebracht op roze-witte dubbel vinyl in een gatefold. Of Concerto die kan regelen weet ik niet zeker, want zo bekend is Kanadia helaas nog niet.

Tweemaal “zou moeten” en tweemaal “zou mooi zijn”. Veel plezier met uitkiezen binnenkort.

Thanks to 16 presenters from 12 universities we had a great panel on Democratic Innovation and Citizen Participation, which Krista Ettlinger and I co-chaired. All those people are an important reason why being part of this academic community is such a privilege.

Time flies when you’re having fun. That surely applied to the annual conference of @nigovernance.bsky.social in Leuven this week. I am very grateful to the organisers, who did a great job. What a great way to start the year at work: members of our university’s executive board, Tom Veldkamp and Machteld Roos, announced that I am one of the recipients of the UT Media Awards. The nice certificate comes with a huge cake, which my wonderful colleagues enthusiastically helped to consume.

Hoogtepunt uit ons uur was Knights Of Cydonia van Muse, die ook tweemaal live heb gehoord tijdens hun geweldige concerten. Genieten geblazen.

In 2020 Marta Gallina and I developed a kind of plan to write a paper on precisely that topic (but with no plans for field experiments). It never materialised, however, which makes me even more pleased that you focused on this, got the research done, and have it now published in such a great outlet.

Haha, I have just noticed it is a short article when I downloaded the pdf a few moments ago. I love the main question: do VAAs help voters to support parties they are closest to in terms of policy preferences or ideology. So relevant, but little focused on.
