2025 has been a nightmarish s**tstorm, but making music with talented, cool, kind people makes the days survivable
I've got 1 or 2 more 2025 releases, but thanks to all involved in the things that I've been included on so far!
Haven't been able to write anything lately between classes and commitments, but I wanted share some of my highlights from the past couple months!
Sudan Archives - The BPM
BRUIT - The Age Of Ephemerality
︎Motion City Soundtrack - The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World
I thought this one was really cool, has a bit of a distressed pop art look
It's an incredibly fun idea, to invite the listener in, like a black hole, have all sorts of interesting bits for fans to explore. This creates a totally unique album experience; in my opinion, Aesop has really gone above with his recent albums, expanding on these concepts he builds for his albums.
Shortly before the release of the album, the Black Hole Superette Experience was announced, which allowed fans to enter into and explore the store in 3D, listen to snippets of every track, and purchase exclusive merchandise.

An album cover with the front of a convenience store at night with neon lights and signs
The backside of a vinyl cover with the back of the convenience store, with graffiti all over the building, dumpster and trash bin, song titles on the roof
Altogether, this forms the whole concept of the album, a surreal, late-night convenience store with nostalgic items and design, not grounded in space or time, possibly taking the listener or visitor as a prisoner.

An album cover with a drawn garbage bin overflowing with assorted items
An album cover with a over the shoulder of another, both looking at an old computer with assorted items surrounding them, a person meditating, a rocket, electronics, and flasks and beakers filled with liquids
An album cover with a glowing red skull in front of a levitating deer in the woods
The album cover for Black Hole Superette was created by Justin "El Coro" Kaufman, who had created the covers for Aesop's recent albums, Integrated Tech Solutions, Garbology, Spirit World Field Guide, and collaborative album with Rob Sonic, Hail Mary Mallon's Bestiary.
New York rap legend Aesop Rock released his 11th solo studio album on Friday, Black Hole Superette, featuring 18 tracks of exciting production and Aesop's signature lyricism and delivery.

Additionally Tchaikovsky's Pathétique Symphony was the composers' final completed symphony, and Elegy is the final official album release of The Nice.
Altogether, this album is a send-off, a goodbye, an elegy. The day is soon to be over, the balls travel toward the horizon and out of sight. It's a somber theme yet the music is playful; possibly sharing that while goodbyes our sad, we should enjoy the last bit of time we have.
A full spread of an album cover with a photograph of red balls in a sandy desert and text in the sky "ELEGY/THE NICE"
The album cover as a whole is a landscape photograph in the Sahara desert. On the front, several large red-orange balls are placed in the sand, with long shadows as the sun sets. The balls move away from the viewer, rising and falling over the terrain and into the horizon.
The cover was created by legendary album cover artists Hipgnosis, and it's discussed in Aubrey Powell's book, Vinyl: The Complete Hipgnosis Catalogue. In the book, Aubrey shares some light detail about the creation of the cover and their time in Morocco.
Elegy is the final official album release of 60's progressive rock band, The Nice. The original release was a 4 track mix of 2 live tracks, a Bob Dylan cover and a rendition from Tchaikovsky's Pathétique Symphony.

One of my favorite ambient artists, Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill is so wonderful, it's like phasing between a dream and reality. Some interesting covers, fairly abstract with the A I A covers.
3 album covers placed together (Complaint, Placement, and Intention) combining to spell the album names horizontally
When all 3 albums are placed next to each other, you may notice that all 3 covers combine to spell out their names horizontally, in order. Watsky shared that he and his friend built a scriptto find 3 words that work this way, and built his next 3 albums around these words.

Watsky, Intention (2023)
The final album is Intention (2023), which released slightly more than two years ago. When the album was initially released, it was a 9 track LP just like the other albums, but shortly after was revealed to have 9 more track, unlocked after completing an online puzzle.
The cover features oversaturated and vividly colored houses in front of a beach, with the same grid for the album title. These are references to Watsky's growing up in the Bay Area, the "little boxes on the hillside" and uniformity of the suburbs.

Watsky, Placement (2020)
The second album is Placement, another 9 track LP that's a bit more youthful and fun compared to Complaint. Topics for this album include youth, politics, and living despite facing hardships and suicidal thoughts.
The cover features a dark and blurry portrait of George on a cut surface with the 3x3 grid of letters to form the album's title. The cuts match the direction George is looking to have continuity, and the letters are also cut, indicating that they are actually on the surface of the photograph.

Watsky, Complaint (2019)
The first album of the trilogy is Complaint, a 9 track LP that displayed a more pop and indie influence compared to Watsky's earlier work. The album is lyrically darker and slower too, discussing topics like love, insecurity and solidarity among the sad.
George Watsky is a San Franscisco born poet & hip hop artist who's three most recent albums, Complaint (2019), Placement (2020), and Intention (2023) are a part of his "Symmetry trilogy."
