Multiple advocacy efforts are moving forward, but we must must must know more about what grants were cancelled and why.
This is really cool! It’s interesting that dual binding of S20/L26 to both subunits is conserved in proteobacteria. I wonder if the extra copy protects the ribosomes from a phage or allows an alternative interaction in a stress condition. Or maybe it just happened for no reason and stuck anyway.
I recently flew back into the US following an international trip and for the first time felt fear and anxiety while presenting my green card at the immigration control. Because of stories like this.
If the goal is to instill fear in legal immigrants it's working.

Goosebump producing news this week out of Oregon Health and Science University in the diagnosis of pancreatic CA.
They developed a groundbreaking blood test, called PAC-MANN. This new test can find pancreatic cancer in just 45 minutes, even in its earliest stages.
