One thing I want to stress--beyond admiration and joy that this is being exposed and discussed at all--is that the work I, and others did, cited in here on how modern conversion practices are laundered and sanitized has been ongoing for decades at this point. As has its inexorable inroads into NHS.

Hello! We're interested in bringing social science to the public through community partnership, through public teaching, and through training.
We are here to connect with all kinds of organizations and people interested in promoting a more engaged and knowledgeable public!
Are you interested in using science to improve policies and training?
Supporting future generations of scholars?
Helping to ensure critical knowledge production is not compromised by funding disruption and political interference?
Check this out and consider supporting! www.societyworkshop.org
Thank you, @mwkraus.bsky.social, for letting me do my small part to make this a reality. I cannot wait to see all that Society Workshop will accomplish
The work of science can, and must, extend beyond the hallways and offices of university settings. I am so excited about the possibilities of Society Workshop to engage with scientists and community members alike to bridge the gap and to make real the work that we care so much about.
Study promotion for a great PhD student!
If you and/or your romantic partner are experiencing depressive symptoms, consider participating in this online study. Your participation can help researchers better understand romantic partner support. Open to couples of any gender or sexual orientation ๐

As the Light and Dark once again clash, we find ourselves participating in the Festival of Lightsabers. The Darkside holds that only in shevirat ha-kelim will we find true freedom, while the Lightside aims for tikkun
How is it that there are no lightsaber hanukiahs out there? Like... Lightsaber hilts would make the best holders for candles
The more I look at this image, the more cursed it becomes
The "Make America Healthy Again" crowd is, once again, taking actions that harm Americans. Not only will this lead to higher rates of depression and suicidality for youth, it will impact those youth for the rest of their lives.
Trans youth deserve care
Yesterday, I had the honor of being the invited speaker at the VCU Department of Psychology's commencement ceremony. While I would love to share all of those words here, apparently character limits exist
I encourage you to check out the brand new blog entry on my website:
Happy Hanukkah!
Every so often I relisten to the musical The Last Five Years just to remind myself how fucking awful Jaime is (and how wonderful Jeremy Jordan is)
Thank you so much, friend! I appreciate you so much!
So I guess I'll meet you there in a couple of years as long as we have free and fair elections ๐
Well, if you let me know when you're going to be in NYC next, I could be your shul buddy...
I considered explicitly asking for the addition of a conservative voice, but I am incredibly happy with the voices I had.
It made me want to go to each of their services. I can say that if I'm ever in New York, I'll be checking out West End Synagogue
I was so grateful to have such an amazing Beit Din full of brilliant (and kind) rabbis
Apparently even Shammai (@shammaiintl.bsky.social) approves
Thanks, Dan!
Thank you, Wyatt!
It's just as cool to have had an old friend like Rabbi Emily to be there. I just want to thank them all so much for their support and for an amazing conversation
Today is my 40th birthday.
It is also my first day of being officially Jewish. I had an amazing Beit Din, including Rabbi Ahuva Zaches, Rabbi Ariel Tovlev, and @thatrabbicohen.bsky.social. It is so cool to have had numerous queer Rabbis, and a trans Rabbi, on my Beit Din.
I love this! Thank you for sharing, Anja (and thanks for inviting me on to this!)
I was lucky to have the chance to work alongside her and many other colleagues to bring her story to light (in the very same journal that published Kosky's piece nearly 40 years ago).
Give it a read, won't you?
His study had a lot of problems. This article highlights many of them from an interesting perspective: one of a previous "participant." Jayne Fayden, the first author on this paper, was one of those "patients." Her experiences, and her actual outcomes, run incredibly contrary to Kosky's claims.
This paper highlights one of those reasons. In 1987, Robert Kosky published an article about his attempts to use in-patient psychiatric treatment, without actively trying to engage in conversion therapy, to get kids to stop being trans. He claimed to be successful
If this were true, that might be really important to know! But... that quote came from a blog post. It was based on a cursory glance of 11 studies that range in quality, and there is reason to believe that this rate may be less than accurate.
One of the oft quoted "statistics" when it comes to gender affirming healthcare for transgender youth relates to the rate of transgender identity desistance. The claim goes like this: "Roughly 60โ90% of trans- kids turn out no longer to be trans by adulthood" (Cantor, 2016).
