i'm from the US, but from my experience, they keep you for a week minimum, until you are mentally stable and/or have a stable plan for yourself on release. they will typically try to find ways to improve your mental, and help you figure out something to keep you afloat once you get out. depending on

next week i'll be finally getting top surgery. I planned this delicately after landing a job with a very affordable temp disability plan. I decided not to keep my nipples for several reasons after a friend reminded me this surgery is for my comfort, not others. "Do it for you, brah." "Anyone help? My scars have hyperpigmentation :(" "my scars have keloids im so miserable" as I look through support groups about people's post op experiences, I see a lot of people anguishing over the appearance of their scars. Not that it's bad to want to look a certain way but you just had surgery.
I understand a lot of this stems from wanting to "pass" which is a concept i outright abandoned in favor of being a sexy, inflammatory little prick. aka very queer. ans after having my mother throw hundreds of dollars in whitening products for my teeth and scar gel for dog bites, i am over feeling blemished and ugly. I have stretchmarks on my ass and chest, huge scars from ankle surgery, scar tissue on my ears from home haircuts, all of which are part of my story whether i like it or not. top surgery scars will be a testament to my resillience. Visual resistance to male expectations people have for me. I am now free to be topless in the summer and fresh out the shower. Free from rashes. I will not be ashamed of my skin's healing, and I don't think anyone else should be either.
Repost of some thoughts I had before top surgery in 2022, I've been thinking of redoing it as a zine with my present thoughts on the other side of top surgery. I hope this gives someone comfort.
