The Washington Post Dies in Daylight Civic vandalism and the mutilation of a great paper.

“If a newspaper’s publisher makes a bunch of decisions that lose money, and then the owner keeps the publisher while firing the staff who puts out the paper—none of this is really about the money, is it?”

Yes, the unusual thing here is that it didn't happen immediately after the shooting and with the start of an investigation. That it's happening days later is what's not at all normal.

In traffic:

Google maps: typical.
Apple Maps: it will be at least 10 minutes longer than whatever I say.
Waze: if you go through the trailer park, ford this stream, and take this back road strewn with construction debris, you will save eight minutes. Let’s go!

Trump defends Saudi crown prince over Khashoggi killing The de facto Saudi ruler was branded a pariah in 2018 after the killing of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi. Now, U.S.-Saudi relations are approaching a high point.

You can oversee the bloody dismemberment of a Washington Post journalist with a bone saw, and the president of the United States will smile, shake your hand and threaten to pull the license of a news outlet whose reporter asks you a question about it.

Journalists turn in access badges, exit Pentagon rather than agree to new reporting rules Journalists at the Pentagon turned in access badges and cleaned out their workspaces on Wednesday, the price for refusing to agree to new restrictions on their jobs at the seat of U.S. military power.

“What they’re really doing, they want to spoon-feed information to the journalist, and that would be their story. That’s not journalism,” said Jack Keane, a retired U.S. Army general and Fox News analyst, said on Hegseth’s former network.

Mississippi Baby Dies of Whooping Cough Amid Rising Cases A baby in Mississippi has died of whooping cough for the first time since 2012. The baby was less than two months old—too young for vaccination.

Mississippi State Health Officer Dr. Dan Edney encouraged families to keep newborns at home and away from many visitors, especially sick people, during the baby’s first 6 to 8 weeks of life.

The state, like much of the country, is dealing with a rise in potentially deadly whooping cough cases.
