In the UK (did a sabbatical there) this type of behavior was so common that I started going up to people, asking them to stop or use headphones. It was uncomfortable/stressful, but I just became so fed up that I had to do something about it. It worked most of the time. People mostly looked surprised

If you are a hydrologist involved in citizen science projects, consider submitting an abstract for our special session "Listening to the Water: Stories of Change, Connection, and Citizen Science" at the next CWRA national conference. Deadline 20 feb!! Info here: conference.cwra.org
We did not go to the beach.
Here's a link to a newspaper article (in French) about Mr. Trépanier www.ledevoir.com/actualites/e...
In Quebec, several meteorological stations are operated by observers, but they are gradually being replaced by automated stations. I'm grateful for having the opportunity to meet Mr. Richard Trépanier, one of those observers, yesterday during a workshop. His level of dedication is amazing.
On-campus safari
We had a great time at the annual conference of the Canadian Water Resources Association this week! Now, the trip back home just became "Ralph and Marie-Amélie explore Canada from coast to coast" because of a flight delay, but eventually we'll be back in Sherbrooke 🤞

No. Would never have thought of including that in my CV! I'm surprised it's a thing.
I don't have the right surname but I strongly support this project.
I have to find a nice spot for this. It belongs to the team of students, but they don't have a permanent place to put it. 😊 Thank you #icireward #water4future
For those of us who remember the first version; this is an excellent update
You can’t take our country — and you can’t take our game.
HELL YEAH BROTHERRRRRRRR
I'm so thrilled that our team of #Usherbrooke MSc students won the #Water4Future Hackathon this year! 😍 It was their first participation and they were amazing! I'm super proud of them! 🔥🥇
From now on I've officially done more splitboarding in 2025 than in 2024 (1>0)

I'm adding this to my top favorite art installations of all time. Absolutely fantastic! (at Kunsthaus Zurich)
We had a fruitful meeting of the #wmo Standing Committee on Hydrological Services (SC-HYD) this week in Divonne les bains. More info on SC-HYD here: bit.ly/3VtIG9g Now, off to Zurich!
My favorite local independent café announced today that they will be closing for good on Dec 15. Very sad! A truly unique place.
snow on grass with trees and adirondak chairs
Some snow in Sherbrooke at last! ❄️ I hope this winter will be more "wintery" than the previous one.
Yes!! It seems to me like "digital twin" has become one of the fashionable buzzwords to use these days... I haven't read your paper yet but I will!
The term digital twins of the Earth is misleading. We joined the discussion with our new paper
sesmo.org/article/view...
We argue that we 1) should not call them twins as they remain models that are distinct from reality and 2) that we need better methods to rigorously investigate complex models.
My university is now on Bluesky! @usherbrooke.bsky.social
I'm so glad you're here! In my opinion you kind of are a super hero.
Likely of interest to anyone working on streamflow forecasting projects.
