A friendly reminder that having house prices drop in one segment of one market doesn’t equate to affordability improving across the board.

Few are building homes that target the needs of half of the population, or those whose income sits below the median.

That’s a good doggo.

We were promised one thing, right?! Where’s our jet packs?

Oh that sweet pup! And thank you!

I’ve long wanted a private jet so that when I say “I’ve gotta jet,” I can mean it literally.

I've inherited generational trauma - not wealth. I've never had Baby Fever but I had House Fever for yeaaaars.

There's real mourning that comes from realizing that it'll never happen for you. And as David points out, in our current climate, even if you DO get that house, the vibes are off.

"Housing unaffordability is an indictment of this country."

I experience housing-related depression and today has been one of those days. This is not a terribly hopeful piece, but it really helps to hear any homeowner acknowledge, in a realistic way, that change is needed.

Not just a national problem! This touches on several themes of my PhD. The importance of housing has had Welsh language activist groups calling for a total overhaul of the economic system for decades… but the way the market treats housing is a problem even when one takes community out of it.

What’s impressive is not that your brain stops working under the influence of AI, but how quickly.

You couldn’t find a better word to describe our current state than “complacent.”

But treating democracy as inevitable is risky because self-government is anything but set-it-and-forget-it, writes @davidmoscrop.com.

Is Anyone Actually Apathetic? Canada is up against growing challenges at home and around the world. Are we up to the challenge, or will we check out?

When I talk to people about politics, I rarely find someone who is truly apathetic. But I find people who are alienated from politics all the time.

I Bought a House and Became Part of the Problem | The Walrus Homeownership is now a retirement plan, pension substitute, nest egg. And that’s exactly what’s broken

A few years ago, I bought a house with the aim of making it my home. I succeeded. But I also became part of a serious national problem, and shame.

The Mystery of the Maltese Falcon, One of the Most Valuable Movie Props in History A statuette from the John Huston–Humphrey Bogart classic The Maltese Falcon is one of the most recognizable, and sought-after, pieces of movie memorabilia in history.

I'm on the train and I'm re-reading one of my favourite pieces. I can't recommend this enough.

What happened to the Maltese Falcon?

Through Meta Glasses, Darkly How do we solve a problem like the commodification of mass wearable surveillance? Social norms and market pressure are a start, but above all, we need a political response like regulation.

"Like common lands privatized for profit or industrial pollution socializing costs, surveillance glasses turn our public life —parks, pubs, cafés, the outside world— into a negative externality. Private gain is built on degeneration of a shared commons".
