if the right is successful, it must be because the liberals possess some fatal shortcoming or overreached in a way that mechanically produced backlash. the idea that the political right is its own thing with its own aims, can harness discontent and take advantage of contingency is verboten i guess

Astonishing in equal measure and direction, Larson's writing brings to life an America yearning to be bigger and greater than ever before while a predator moves about the Windy City. Larson's poetic prose shows a writer in full command of his craft. Nobody quite does historical nonfiction like him.

We had plenty of baleful special interests influence and rent-seeking, but corruption as in straight-up bribery or personally stealing public money was, by global standards, relatively rare and aggressively punished in the United States. One of those don't miss it 'til it's gone things.

Two Magicians Warn the Supreme Court About Junk Science

Like the 2022 @theonion.com amicus brief on parody and the First Amendment, further evidence that funny people can make serious points to the Supreme Court.

Making the Positive Case for WrestleMania 42 Unlike a lot of the Internet it seems, I’m genuinely excited for WrestleMania 42: most of the matches have been built with intensity, and often relatively long-term storytelling.

WrestleMania 42 is marked by intensity, long-term story-building, and matches I'm excited to see get in the ring. Yes, the McAfee of it all is very frustrating. But that's one match and one build of a two-night 13-match card that otherwise has largely pleased me! So, why wouldn't I be excited?!

Remember, Donald Trump is a very devout Christian who also has no clue what obvious Christian iconography looks like.

Absolutely galling that the Pope would butt into American politics with partisan pronouncements like, "Blessed are the peacemakers." Stay in your lane!

This moron talks about Trump like he’s a toddler and then in the same breath will be like, “And here’s why I don’t regret voting for him.”

Alternatives to "Trump lashes out" for the NYT to consider:

"Rants", "wails", "bitches", "whines", "moans", "posts lunatic screed", "raves", "raves like a madman", "raves like a madman with a hot poker up his ass", "raves like madman with an imaginary poker up his ass", "throws tantrum", "belches".

I would love if Vance and his ilk stayed out of politics.

Trump himself claims he thought it depicted a doctor helping people, which is what Trump then claimed he does, and Vance is saying it was a joke. Which is it? And in the latter, what’s the joke exactly?

Fucking clowns.

An opening paragraph from the NYT for the hell we are all experiencing:

“While receiving a McDonald’s food delivery to the Oval Office, the president told reporters that he posted a photo that depicted him as a robed, Jesus-like figure because he thought it had depicted him as a physician.”

Seriously, why isn’t every Democrat out there hitting this point over and over?

It always frustrates me when they classify Trump attacking people as a “feud.” There is no feud. It’s Trump being an insane person.

"Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime" is objectively a funny thing to write.

It’s so different than Project Hail Mary obviously, but this might be my favorite film so far this year? It was spellbinding from the opening. Unyielding tension and uncomfortable dialogue in the best way. Pattinson and Zendaya were utterly believable and raw in their performances. And funny, too.

Orban, Bolsonaro, Trump, and all the rest of these goons want you to believe they are inevitable and, once in power, invincible. They are not.
