This was actually determined by hair length, but anyway.

Toddler has declared herself Rumi, wife Zoey, and me Mira so I guess I'm the bad bitch of the family.

"I want my hair long, like Rumi!" ...child you're going to need to be a lot more cool with hair brushing but whatever you say, little love. Whatever you say.

College was kind of a tough time in my life but I still think really fondly of that tree. I'm sad it died, but I'm glad it was at least of old age and it's wood was saved to be used by the university as a memorial. It was a grand old thing.

I found out that a few years ago it had sadly reached the end of its life (beech trees 'only' live about 200-300 years). It had survived multiple illnesses, invasive insects, and storms, and the university had done a ton to keep it going in its old age -- but it finally gave out.

In college, there was this grand old copper beech tree that stood in the lawn behind the campus admin building. It was easily 200 years old. It was both feared (knobby old tree with a lot of ghost stories) and loved (annual events held under it every year) by the students there.

I'm not excusing it. Boomer parenting is pretty baked in abusive (physical punishment!!!) and there are some boomers that managed not to be that way. But it's eye-opening to realize how little chance a lot of them had to be anything else.

I knew that boomers were raised by traumatized WWII gen parents who sort of let them wander the neighborhood and come back at night like outdoor cats but.

What's wild that I'm a parent is hearing MY parents, with whom I thought I had a tense relationship as a kid, go on about what a wonderful, creative, intelligent little girl I was. This isn't revisionist history to them. Boomer parenting education was just that galactically bad.

The Law, The Witch, and The Wheelchair: Applying the Social Model of Disability to Witch Hat Atelier The world of Witch Hat is by no means a utopia, and Shirahama’s narrative goes to great lengths to explore the ways in which disabled characters are excluded and further disadvantaged by factors such as social class, wealth, sexuality, or being otherwise marginalized.

The Law, The Witch, and The Wheelchair: Applying the Social Model of Disability to Witch Hat Atelier: AJ Mack examines Witch Hat Atelier and the way series creator Kamome Shirahama uses its setting to cast a spotlight on the challenges and discrimination that people with disabilities face in reality
